Former Bachelor host Chris Harrison is making a return to reality television with a new dating series titled *The Vow*, set to debut on Fox Nation on 11 November. This marks a significant moment for Harrison, who left the popular *Bachelor* franchise in June 2021 amid controversy surrounding his defence of a contestant’s past actions. However, his revival in the dating show arena has been met with a legal challenge from Warner Bros. Television.
Reports surfaced recently that Warner Bros. had issued a cease-and-desist letter to Fox News Media and Lionsgate, alleging that *The Vow* was making a disingenuous effort to capitalise on the successful formula of *The Bachelor*. The letter claimed that Harrison’s new show was “riding on the coattails” of the franchise, which has been a staple of reality TV since its inception.

In response to these allegations, Harrison pointed out distinct differences between *The Vow* and *The Bachelor*. He emphasised the lack of elimination rounds or the customary rose ceremonies that typified his previous hosting role. “If you see a relationship is not going well, you break up face to face, like real people do,” he clarified, describing his vision for a more genuine dating experience.
Harrison co-developed the show with his wife, Lauren Zima, aiming to create a platform that encourages deeper connections among participants. “We saw a resurgence of young people seeking faith and foundational relationships,” he said, noting the inspiration behind the show’s concept. He believes that the uniqueness of *The Vow* lies in its focus on authenticity, steering clear of the more contrived elements that often characterise reality dating programmes.
The legal dispute took a more personal tone when Harrison addressed the situation during an interview with *Entertainment Tonight*. He quipped, “Sounds like somebody misses somebody really bad,” hinting at the emotional undertones of the challenge. He added, “Jealousy is a tough thing. Green’s not a great colour on anybody, is it?”
Fox News Media has firmly contested Warner Bros.’s claims, expressing disappointment at the perceived malice behind the legal action. A statement from the media company described the move as “malicious and vindictive,” suggesting an unfounded targeting of Harrison specifically, particularly since many other dating shows have emerged without similar repercussions.
Additionally, Harrison raised questions about the selective nature of Warner Bros.’s actions. In an interview with *USA Today*, he stated, “I don’t see them going after the 50, 60, 70 other relationship dating shows that have come on in the time that I was there or since I left. There’s been one show that they’ve gone after. Is that a coincidence?”
*The Vow* aims to attract a different audience by delving into the realms of love, faith, and connection, differentiating itself from mainstream dating shows. The first teaser for the series, released on 16 September, features Harrison making a nod to his past with a line that reads, “Roses fade. True love lasts forever.”
Harrison’s departure from *The Bachelor* came during a tumultuous period for the franchise, which saw shuffling in its hosting duties as Tayshia Adams and Kaitlyn Bristowe stepped in during his absence. His exit followed backlash concerning his remarks related to a contestant’s previous attendance at a fraternity party themed around the antebellum South, a matter that garnered significant media attention.
Reflecting on his nearly 20-year tenure with *The Bachelor*, Harrison noted in a now-deleted Instagram post, “I’ve had a truly incredible run… while my two-decade journey is wrapping up, the friendships I’ve made will last a lifetime.”
As anticipation builds for the premiere of *The Vow*, Harrison is hopeful that his new show will resonate well with viewers. Fans will soon see how he plans to reshape the dating show landscape, focusing on authenticity and the building of genuine relationships.
With its launch just around the corner, the upcoming series is set to be a significant moment for Harrison as he embarks on this new chapter in his career, while also navigating the complexities of legal challenges from his past.
