In a poignant moment reflecting both legacy and continuity in the world of entertainment, Georgia Dane, the 14-year-old daughter of the late actor Eric Dane, has officially embarked on her own acting journey. Following in the footsteps of her parents, she is set to star alongside her mother, Rebecca Gayheart, in an upcoming Lifetime film titled “The Ocean Between Them.” The announcement was made by the network on August 18, confirming that the film will make its debut on Saturday, September 26.

“The Ocean Between Them” is a part of Lifetime’s slate entitled “Strength of a Lifetime,” and it features Gayheart as Joan, a mother grappling with the disappearance of her daughter Miranda, played by Jessica Lord, while on holiday in Belize. Georgia takes on the role of Ashley, Joan’s younger daughter, marking a significant entry into the film industry for the teenager.

This milestone comes at a particularly sensitive time for Georgia and her family. Just months earlier, her mother proudly celebrated her middle school graduation amidst personal turmoil. Following the passing of Eric Dane in February, Gayheart shared her joy and pride on social media for Georgia’s accomplishments, including a heartfelt message highlighting her resilience during a challenging year.
“Congratulations Georgia! You have graduated middle school and survived an incredibly difficult year,” Gayheart expressed in her Instagram post, celebrating her daughter’s transition to high school. She added, “I am so beyond proud of you — your tenacity, grit and grace has been on full display.” Alongside this, she lauded Georgia’s achievements in volleyball, further signifying the family’s commitment to supporting each other’s endeavours.
Eric Dane, famed for his role in “Grey’s Anatomy” and more recently in “Euphoria”, faced a hard battle with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) before his untimely death on February 19. After revealing his diagnosis to PEOPLE in 2025, he shared his gratitude for the support of his family as they navigated the challenges of the illness together.
In a statement following his death, his family noted that he spent his final days surrounded by close friends, his devoted wife, and his beloved daughters, Billie and Georgia—indicating the strong family ties that remained central to his life despite the couple’s separation in 2018. Although Gayheart had filed for divorce, she retracted the petition in March 2025 to focus on being a primary caregiver for Dane.
In the wake of his passing, Gayheart paid tribute to her husband on Instagram, expressing her deep sense of loss alongside a montage of treasured family photographs. “There are no words. All our love forever — your girls,” she reflected, emphasising the enduring bond between them.
In a subsequent interview with Variety, Gayheart spoke candidly about the outpouring of support her family has received since Dane’s death. She acknowledged the emotional complexity of her experiences while expressing gratitude for the compassion they have been shown. “I just want to thank everybody for being so kind to us during the last couple of years,” she stated. “It’s been challenging and meaningful, and people are kind.”
Gayheart’s reflections not only highlight the family’s profound sense of loss but also underscore the strength they have found in their community. The actress mentioned that while their situation has been incredibly difficult, there is a supportive network within Hollywood that often goes unnoticed.
As Georgia steps into her role within “The Ocean Between Them,” fans will be watching closely to see how her burgeoning career unfolds against the backdrop of her family’s significant journey. This next chapter serves not only as a tribute to her father’s legacy but also as a testament to the resilience and strength of a family united in love, despite their hardship.
