Acclaimed actress Chrissy Metz, best known for her role in the television series *This Is Us*, is set to make her Broadway debut in the hit musical *& Juliet*. The production announced that Metz will take on the role of Angélique for a limited engagement, starting June 18 and running until September 13, at the Stephen Sondheim Theatre in New York City.

Metz, who is 45 years old, will succeed Tony nominee Jeannette Bayardelle, who will perform her final show on June 14. Expressing her excitement about joining the iconic stage, Metz stated, “I’m so excited to be making my Broadway debut, and to do it in a show that is this joyful feels like an absolute dream come true.” The actress added a humorous touch, saying, “I think some of the hardest working, most creative people work in live theatre and, well, Broadway scares me to bits, which is why I have always wanted to do it. Pray for me!”
The timing of Metz’s announcement coincides with *& Juliet’s* upcoming milestone, as the musical prepares to celebrate its 1,500th performance on Broadway on June 23. The show, directed by Luke Sheppard, takes a fresh look at Shakespeare’s classic *Romeo and Juliet*, exploring an alternate narrative where Juliet decides to embrace life beyond the tragedy associated with her love story.
The musical boasts a vibrant score featuring pop hits crafted by renowned songwriter Max Martin. The collection includes chart-toppers made famous by artists such as Britney Spears, Katy Perry, Kelly Clarkson, Bon Jovi, Demi Lovato, and the Backstreet Boys. Audiences can expect to hear beloved songs like “Since U Been Gone,” “Roar,” “Confident,” and “I Want It That Way” integrated into this reimagined tale.
Metz has garnered significant acclaim for her portrayal of Kate Pearson in NBC’s *This Is Us*, a role which earned her nominations for both an Emmy and a Golden Globe. Beyond her television success, she has recently appeared in Netflix’s *The Hunting Wives* and will soon star in the upcoming Apple+ thriller, *Nocturne*, along with Liev Schreiber and Stephen Graham.
Despite her Hollywood acclaim, Metz has some previous theatrical experience, having performed in New York for a benefit reading of Neil LaBute’s *Fat Pig* in 2017. Notably, she is also an accomplished singer; in 2019, she performed the Oscar-nominated song “I’m Standing With You” from the film *Breakthrough* and released her debut country album, *Prayed for This Day*. Her literary achievements include a bestselling memoir, *This Is Me*, and a children’s book, *When I Talk to God, I Talk About You*, which debuted at the top of *The New York Times* bestseller list.
Since its premiere in November 2022, *& Juliet* has remained one of the most sought-after shows on Broadway, receiving nine nominations at the 2023 Tony Awards, including Best Musical. The production has enjoyed impressive international success, having been staged in nine countries across four continents since its debut in London’s West End in 2019.
Looking ahead, a North American tour of *& Juliet* is set to commence in the fall of 2024, covering over 30 cities across the United States this year. Current cast members on Broadway include Gianna Harris as Juliet, James Monroe Iglehart as Lance, Alison Luff as Anne, Drew Gehling as Shakespeare, and Liam Pearce as Romeo, among others.
As enthusiasts prepare for Metz’s theatre debut and the continued success of *& Juliet*, tickets are now available for those wishing to witness the innovative production that transforms a classical narrative into a celebration of life and music.
