Supermodel Paulina Porizkova has taken to social media to address concerns surrounding her recent comments about moving out of her New York City apartment just days before her wedding to fiancé Jeff Greenstein. The 61-year-old model clarified that, although her lease was not renewed, the situation should not be framed as a traditional eviction.

In an Instagram video posted on May 26, Porizkova expressed gratitude for the sympathy shown by her fans, but wanted to clarify that it was “privileged people problems.” “Strictly speaking, we’re not getting evicted evicted,” she explained. “My lease expired, and my landlord just didn’t want to renew it for any amount of time except for a full year, which we didn’t want to do.” She added that her emotional reaction stems from previous life experiences related to moving.
Earlier in the month, during an episode of their podcast, “Twenty Good Summers,” Porizkova had described the situation as being a source of stress, highlighting her pleas for an extension on her lease despite being a good tenant for six years. “And so we have to move out of here four days before we get married in Italy,” she noted, with Greenstein agreeing that the timing was less than ideal.
In her recent Instagram update, Porizkova opened up about her childhood experiences that have contributed to her anxiety about moving. At just nine years old, she was taken from her homeland of Czechoslovakia to Sweden, a transition she described as traumatic. “I didn’t know what was happening, and I couldn’t go back to Grandma or my friends,” she recounted. This foundational experience has seemingly left a lasting impression, as she reflected on how every new move has felt like the end of one chapter and the start of another.
Despite the emotional weight of leaving her current apartment, which she described as a safe haven where she rebuilt herself, Porizkova expressed readiness to embrace the next phase of her life alongside Greenstein. “I know I’m ready to leave because I have someone who stands by me, and together we can brave whatever comes our way,” she affirmed, reassuring her followers that they were far from homeless.
The couple does have multiple housing options following their wedding. Porizkova mentioned a country house co-owned with her sons, which offers a reprieve from the hustle and bustle of city life. However, she admitted a reluctance to spend too much time there, having found the isolation challenging during the COVID-19 pandemic. Additionally, they are considering Greenstein’s home in Los Angeles, which is currently on the market.
Porizkova has previously faced significant life changes, including her split from Ric Ocasek, the late frontman of The Cars, after a 28-year marriage. Following a period of healing, she and Greenstein started dating in May 2023, eventually leading to a proposal in July 2025. Reflecting on her journey towards love, Porizkova recognised the hard work involved in breaking free from the limiting beliefs that had plagued her during her time as a single woman.
“Meeting someone special and falling in love wasn’t with a wave of a magical wand,” she remarked. “It was the result of really hard work.” She acknowledged the emotional hurdles she had to overcome, including feelings of inadequacy and self-doubt. Her newfound understanding of herself has transformed her perception of self-worth, allowing her to embrace the possibility of love anew.
As Porizkova prepares for her forthcoming wedding in Italy and the new chapter that awaits after relocating, her openness about her vulnerabilities serves as a reminder of the complexities that accompany significant life transitions. The supermodel’s narrative highlights the delicate balance between personal history and the challenges of modern life, reinforcing that even those in the public eye contend with the emotional ramifications of change.
