Kayla Little has been making waves on social media, particularly TikTok, where she recently shared a snapshot of her demanding job at Walt Disney World. She works not only as a Guest Experience Expert at the Swan and Dolphin Resort but also as a host at The Cake Bake Shop, showcasing the hard work behind the magic that Disney promises to its guests.
Little’s viral TikTok, which revealed her staggering 19-hour workday, has drawn attention to the realities faced by those working to ensure that every visitor has a memorable experience at Disney. “I wanted to show the reality,” Kayla explained, “There’s often a perception that everything is always perfect at Disney, but the truth is, cast members are real people working long hours to make those moments happen.”
The 30-year-old originally hails from Katy, Texas, and made the move to Orlando, Florida, in August 2024, all in pursuit of her dream to join the Disney team. She began her journey through the Disney College Program, initially working in merchandise at Animal Kingdom. After standing out among roughly 1,500 applicants, she advanced to Guest Relations, where she honed her skills in guest interaction.
She currently handles four shifts a week, each averaging 10.5 hours, at the Swan and Dolphin Resort. Her responsibilities include assisting guests with check-ins, providing answers to inquiries, and resolving any issues that may arise during their stay. Although situated on Disney property, the Swan and Dolphin Resort is not classified as a Disney hotel, adding a unique element to her role.
In addition to her primary job, Kayla also embraces the role of host at The Cake Bake Shop, where she manages reservations and enhances guests’ experiences. However, the real test of her endurance came during her first week balancing both roles. “I worked six days in a row,” she recounted, noting that the schedule was particularly challenging as she simultaneously underwent training for her new position.
“My shifts often stretched from as early as 6:30 a.m. to close to midnight,” she shared. One day, in particular, extended to a 19-hour marathon of activity. But for Kayla, the effort is balanced by the joy of creating memorable experiences for guests. “Physically it was exhausting, but mentally it was energising because I love being busy and helping people,” she stated.
A defining moment in her career came when she was able to upgrade a family’s stay to a room with a view of the fireworks for a little girl’s birthday trip. “The mum cried, telling me this was a once-in-a-lifetime trip for them. They had been saving for years,” she recalled, explaining how the family’s joy made the long hours worthwhile. “Those moments reinforce why I love what I do,” Kayla said, adding that every interaction presents a chance to brighten someone’s day.
The response to her TikTok post was swift and varied. Many viewers lauded her impressive work ethic, while others expressed concern over the legality of such lengthy shifts. “Some assumed it was illegal, which isn’t the case,” she explained, highlighting how misinformation can spread quickly online. Despite the mixed feedback, Kayla appreciated the overall positive messages, particularly from viewers inspired to pursue their own dreams.
Her videos have not only generated interest in her daily life but have also spurred many to consider joining the Disney College Program or chasing their own ambitions. “I love that my videos encourage people to believe in themselves,” Kayla noted, reflecting on the power of social media as a motivating force.
At the heart of her story is a desire for others to understand the dedication behind the scenes at Disney. “No two shifts are ever the same. It’s fast-paced, unpredictable, and requires a lot of energy, patience, and teamwork,” she explained. Despite the challenges, Kayla finds the work incredibly rewarding, stating, “It’s exhausting but also the most rewarding feeling in the world.”
