A 75-year-old man from Florida has been charged with the murder of Laikyn Marie West, a 24-year-old woman who was reported missing in September 2024 and whose body has yet to be found. Ronald Chester Racki appears to be implicated in a troubling case that has drawn significant media attention and prompted a collaborative investigation involving multiple law enforcement agencies.

West, a resident of Bradenton, was last seen on 13 September 2024, with her roommate reporting her missing three days later. The inquiry took a significant turn when investigators discovered Racki was the last person to have communicated with West before her disappearance. This information emerged from a search of West’s phone, which indicated a conversation between the two at around 8 a.m. on the morning she vanished.

According to the Venice Police Department, Racki was arrested on 20 February 2026 after being hospitalised following an attempted suicide. During his treatment, medical staff noted that Racki claimed to have “killed four women six weeks ago,” raising alarm bells for investigators. This disturbing statement coincided with evidence gathered in the case against him.
Racki’s involvement reportedly includes a detailed allegation that he had contacted West to offer her money for sexual services. He stated that he drove her from her home in Bradenton to Venice, but detectives uncovered inconsistencies in his account. Notably, they found no witnesses who could confirm his assertion that he dropped her off after their supposed lunch date.
Further complicating matters, a journal entry belonging to West came to light during police interviews with Racki. In it, she described an arrangement in which a man had paid her nearly £1,000 in exchange for allowing chloroform to be used during sexual activities. While Racki admitted to possessing chloroform for cleaning purposes and acknowledged having fantasies involving restraints and simulated non-consensual acts, he vehemently denied involvement in her disappearance, suggesting instead that she may have suffered an overdose or a medical episode.
A thorough inspection of Racki’s phone revealed harrowing evidence. Investigators found several photographs depicting West in a compromised state, bound with handcuffs and cable ties. The timestamps on these images indicated they were taken on the very night she disappeared. Authorities have stated that searching his phone also led to the discovery of queries related to violent pornography and “snuff”-themed content.
As the investigation progressed, a local detailer revealed to police that he had cleaned a blue pickup truck belonging to Racki shortly after West went missing. This witness reported having noticed a suspicious stain in the vehicle, along with an unusual odour, although there were no written records of his observations.
Despite extensive searches, West’s body has not yet been located. Authorities maintain that all evidence suggests she is not alive and does not appear to be missing voluntarily. Consequently, Racki is currently being held without bond at the Sarasota County Jail, awaiting a court appearance scheduled for 20 March.
Venice Police Chief Andy Leisenring expressed confidence in the investigation, stating that the evidence gathered led to the charges against Racki. “After months of careful and coordinated investigative work, the evidence developed in this case supports this arrest and charge,” he remarked, underlining the commitment to achieving justice for the missing woman.
The case has become a focal point for authorities and the community, as both the Bradenton and Venice police departments continue to seek answers. As of now, investigators have not disclosed any new developments that led to Racki’s arrest since the last collaborative investigative efforts in December 2024.
With the continuing investigation and upcoming court proceedings, the questions surrounding the fate of Laikyn Marie West remain at the forefront, keeping the public and her family desperate for answers.
