Max Greenfield, known for his role as Schmidt on the popular TV show New Girl, recently took a trip down memory lane as he delved into the nostalgia of the series and shared insights about cast reunions. In an exclusive interview with PEOPLE, Greenfield opened up about his latest endeavours and the fond memories he holds of his time on the beloved show.
Greenfield, 45, reminisced about his time portraying the lovably over-the-top character Schmidt, revealing that revisiting moments from the series often brings back waves of laughter. He expressed how fans frequently reach out to him, quoting iconic Schmidt lines like “29!” and “All Day!”, which he admits never fails to bring a smile to his face. The actor shared, “New Girl fans are so great and nice and connected to that. What I feel is the spirit of the show. It makes me feel like I know people. I have friends everywhere.”
Despite the series concluding nearly seven years ago, Greenfield emphasised that the bond among the New Girl cast remains strong to this day. Recently, many of the cast members reunited to celebrate Greenfield’s wife, Tess Sanchez, at her book launch. Greenfield reflected on the reunion, highlighting the ease with which they slip back into the camaraderie they shared on set. The actor fondly stated, “When I watch it I’m always so pleasantly surprised. I get it. These are really great. It’s very quintessentially nostalgic too.”
In a collaboration with STEM bug repellents, Greenfield embraced a hint of Schmidt’s persona as he partnered with Queer Eye’s Jeremiah Brent for a light-hearted ad campaign. Reflecting on the experience, Greenfield shared his admiration for STEM products, which his family already uses, and how the funny concept brought a playful twist to his character’s interaction with Brent. The actor explained, “I felt so bad yelling at Jeremiah, so we switched up the concept a little, which made my character charmingly annoying to him.”
Greenfield’s affection for New Girl and his on-screen alter ego Schmidt shine through as he immerses himself in the fond memories of the show.
