A woman with a rare autoimmune disease had an extraordinary wedding, thanks to the generosity of Wish Upon a Wedding and local vendors who donated over $50,000 worth of services. Kristina Hamilton, who suffers from Diffuse Systemic Scleroderma, exchanged vows with her husband, Chris Swanson, on April 6 at Trinity Oaks of Matthew’s Hope in Cocoa, Florida. The wedding was a dream come true for Kristina, as her condition had cast doubt on whether she would ever see this day.

Diffuse Systemic Scleroderma is an incurable disease that causes the body to produce thicker tissues than normal. It has already led to several health issues for Kristina, including alterations to her bone structure, dental problems, and lung complications. Facing an uncertain future with her vital organs at risk, Kristina applied to Wish Upon a Wedding on a whim last year. To her surprise, she was selected for the opportunity to have her dream wedding.

Courtney Woolbright of I Do for You Wedding & Event Planning orchestrated the magical day by collaborating with generous local vendors. The wedding, which took place at no cost to the couple, was a celebration filled with love and hope. Kristina, 42, and Chris, 43, who met online in 2023, were surrounded by nearly 50 guests as they exchanged vows and began their journey as husband and wife.
The couple expressed their gratitude to Wish Upon a Wedding for providing them with a day they will forever cherish. The generosity of the nonprofit organisation went beyond planning a wedding; it gave Kristina and Chris a moment of pure joy, hope, and love amidst their challenging circumstances. The bride stunned in an elegant strapless gown, complemented by a bouquet of blue and white roses, while the groom looked dapper in a blue suit.
Following the heartfelt ceremony, the celebration continued with a cocktail hour featuring delights from East Coast Shuckers. The reception, complete with music by DJ Chemics, a photo booth, and a delicious meal, was a joyous occasion for everyone in attendance. As the newlyweds embark on this new chapter of their lives, they are committed to building a future filled with purpose, strength, and family.
Kristina’s medical journey continues to be a challenging one, but she approaches it with a positive mindset. Her hope is not only to manage her own health but also to raise awareness about Diffuse Systemic Scleroderma and contribute to finding a cure for others living with the disease. Alongside her husband, they are navigating life with love, gratitude, and a determination to inspire others facing similar challenges.
The couple’s story serves as a reminder of the power of love, generosity, and community support in overcoming adversity. Kristina and Chris are grateful for the outpouring of kindness that made their wedding day a truly unforgettable experience. Their bond and resilience in the face of illness are a testament to the strength of the human spirit and the importance of cherishing every moment of joy and celebration.
