A remarkable sighting of a moose running through a field in Bozeman, Montana, has captivated social media users after being recorded by a student from Montana State University. The encounter took place on a Monday morning when Alivia Ballenger, engrossed in her studies, caught a glimpse of the massive creature through her apartment window.

Ballenger described the moment as startling; though wildlife is a common occurrence in the area, the sheer size of the moose left her momentarily speechless. “It’s very rare to see an animal that big,” she remarked, noting that the moose appeared somewhat intimidating, even from a distance. Her astonishment prompted her to capture the moment on video, excitedly sharing it with friends who were equally taken aback by the unusual sight.

The moose was spotted running across a vacant lot that is coincidentally part of a property listed by Alivia’s father, Travis Ballenger, who owns House of Bozeman Realty. Travis reflected on the day, recalling that his daughter woke-up to the unexpected sight just as he was marketing the property. The amusing coincidence led him to view the footage as an unexpected marketing strategy.
“I have the land listing for the property where the moose crossed,” he explained with a chuckle. “My daughter woke up, and there’s this great big moose. It just ran right by my sign.” This amusing turn of events prompted Travis to share the footage on his company’s Facebook page, hoping the moose would generate interest in the 2.5-acre listing. “It’s a great lot,” he added, “I think the moose thought so, too.”
Later that same day, the moose was spotted resting in front of the local radio station aptly named The Moose 94.7. The sizeable animal seemed to have comfortably made itself at home in the college town, sparking curiosity among residents and wildlife enthusiasts alike.
Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks have since identified the moose as an adult, clarifying that during this time of year, both male and female moose may be seen without antlers. Despite the occasional sighting of various wildlife species within the city limits, moose encounters are not a daily occurrence, with officials noting that the creatures typically wander through town.
The local wildlife authority stated, “While a moose sighting is not an everyday thing, oftentimes they’re passing through and just happen to wander into town.” This particular occurrence was no exception, as the moose appeared to be exploring rather than posing any immediate threat.
Following reports of the moose’s presence, local officials have been receiving calls from concerned residents. However, none of the reports have indicated any troublesome behaviour from the moose. Authorities are actively monitoring the situation to ensure that both the animal and the community remain safe.
The sudden appearance of the moose has provided the local community with a charming story to share, not only enhancing the visibility of the property for sale but also fostering a sense of connection between residents and the wildlife that occasionally visits their town.
As the moose was observed enjoying its day, residents couldn’t help but find humour in the remarkable incident, which serves as a reminder of the unique wildlife that inhabits Montana and its sometimes unexpected interactions with urban life.
