The family of Cole Brings Plenty, a 27-year-old actor known for his role in the series ‘1923,’ is grappling with an overwhelming sense of loss and unanswered questions after his body was discovered in Kansas on April 5, 2024. His demise followed days of being reported missing and being named a suspect in a domestic violence investigation.
The Johnson County Sheriff’s Office confirmed the discovery of Cole’s body in a rural area, just two days after police in Lawrence released details linking him to an incident involving “allegations of domestic violence.” It was reported that authorities responded to calls from a woman screaming for help at an apartment complex, leading to an investigation that identified Cole as a suspect. Surveillance footage indicated he left the area shortly after the incident.

Mo Brings Plenty, Cole’s uncle and a prominent actor on the series ‘Yellowstone,’ expressed deep sorrow over the circumstances surrounding his nephew’s death. He has voiced frustration regarding the investigation, calling it “heartbreaking” that it appears to have been treated as a case with “no foul play.” In a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter, he lamented the lack of effort by law enforcement, claiming they seemed more focused on locating him as a suspect rather than searching for him as a missing person.
“There are still many families, including mine, facing similar situations, and we continue to have a multitude of unanswered questions,” Mo remarked. “After seeing the condition of his body and the evidence surrounding his death, it’s hard to believe officials would say there’s nothing to investigate.”

His uncle urged the public to spread awareness of Cole’s story, emphasising the importance of continuing the fight for justice. He characterised Cole as a beacon for their culture, noting his engagement with their traditions and the positive impact he had on those around him. “This was someone who spoke our language, sang our songs, and embodied our heritage. His future was bright, and we want our young people to draw inspiration from him,” he added.
The Johnson County Sheriff’s Office and the Lawrence Police Department have yet to respond to media inquiries about the investigation into Cole’s death. Amidst tragedies, community support often plays a vital role in providing solace, and the family expressed their gratitude for the outpouring of love and prayers during their search for Cole.
In a statement released through Mo shortly after his nephew’s death, Cole’s father, Joe Brings Plenty Sr., expressed profound sadness, stating, “I am deeply saddened to confirm that my son, Cole, has been found and is no longer with us. We appreciate everyone who joined us in the search and for the kindness shown to our family during this painful time.”
Despite the ongoing grief, Mo is continuing his work in the entertainment industry. He is set to reprise his role in a new ‘Yellowstone’ spin-off titled ‘Marshals,’ alongside co-stars Luke Grimes and Gil Birmingham. Mo spoke about his excitement for the continuation of the Brocken Rock reservation’s story within the narrative, highlighting the importance of incorporating diverse perspectives in storytelling.
“I’m extremely grateful that they are including Broken Rock and Indian Country in this story.” he remarked. “It is crucial that we shed more light on the lives and experiences of the original inhabitants, and I believe this project can help achieve that.”
As his family seeks further clarity about Cole’s tragic end, they remain resolute in advocating for justice. They hope to honour his memory by spotlighting the stories of other marginalised voices in the community, ensuring that their legacy endures.
Meanwhile, audiences can catch new episodes of ‘Marshals,’ which airs Sundays at 8 p.m. ET on CBS, as it explores the lives and stories within a dynamic backdrop that continues to resonate in contemporary society.
