In a distressing incident on the evening of October 19, Spanish footballer Sergio Rico and his wife, influencer Alba Silva, experienced an armed robbery at their home in Seville. The family was reportedly having dinner when five masked intruders, armed and gloved, broke into the residence, posing a significant threat to the couple and their young children.

At around 10 p.m. local time, the assailants gained entry to the property while Rico, 33, and Silva were with their two children, Carla, who is two years old, and a three-month-old baby boy, also named Sergio. Silva’s mother was also present, adding to the vulnerable atmosphere of the household during the brazen attack.

According to local news reports, such as El Mundo, Rico and Silva attempted to escape to another room in a bid to protect themselves and their children from the intruders. Sadly, the burglars managed to break down the door, assaulting both parents during the robbery and making off with valuables, including jewelry and watches. Following the traumatic experience, Silva confirmed that the incident had been reported to the police.
Sergio Rico, who had previously spent notable stints with clubs such as Paris Saint-Germain and Fulham, later shared his perspective on the ordeal through Telecinco, suggesting that some accounts of the violence he faced had been exaggerated. Sources close to the footballer speculated that the robbery may have been well-planned and coordinated.
Alba Silva, who married Rico in June 2022, took to her Instagram Stories the day after the attack to communicate with her followers, reassuring them that her family was safe. In a heartfelt message, she expressed her shock at the situation but emphasised the importance of their safety. “Thank God, our family is safe. Thank you all for your concern,” she stated, reflecting the emotional toll of the event.
This incident is not the first time the former Sevilla FC goalkeeper has been targeted by thieves. In January 2021, during his tenure at PSG, his home in Neuilly-sur-Seine was burgled, resulting in a significant loss of over €25,000 (around £21,000) in cash, alongside luxury items. At that time, Rico was engaged in a league match for his team while the burglary occurred.
Adding to the troubled history, Rico faced further adversity earlier this year. In May 2023, he was severely injured in a horseback riding accident in Huelva, close to his current home in Seville. Rico was in a coma for three weeks and was reported to have narrowly escaped a life-threatening situation. He eventually returned home in August 2023 after a long recovery.
Individuals close to the family have indicated that this latest robbery highlights a concerning trend regarding the safety and security of high-profile figures. The Guardia Civil, the Spanish police force, has been notified of the incident, yet as of now, there has been no public response from them regarding the ongoing investigations.
The alarming nature of this event raises questions about the safety of high-profile personalities in Spain, especially in the wake of similar incidents involving celebrities and athletes. As the story unfolds, many will be looking for updates both on the investigation and the well-being of Sergio Rico and Alba Silva, who are now grappling with the aftermath of this shocking violation of their family’s safety.
In the broader context, this incident reflects growing concerns about the safety of individuals in the public eye, and the need for enhanced security measures in domestic settings. The football community and fans worldwide have rallied around Rico and his family, expressing support during this turbulent time, hoping for justice and a swift resolution to the case.
