Kerry Kennedy, who is 67 years old, took to social media on 21 October to express her sorrow and honour Kyle’s memory. In her post, she noted that the family is grappling with the profound loss of “a bright light and gentle spirit.” Kerry described Kyle as a dedicated educator and a loving mother to her children, Conor and Declan. The cause of Kyle’s death is still under investigation, as detailed in a death certificate obtained by PEOPLE.
In her tribute, Kerry wrote, “Our hearts are with her children, her mother Vicki, her brother Michael, and sister Rory.” Kyle was the daughter of Kerry’s late brother Michael, who tragically passed away at the age of 39 in a skiing accident in Aspen, Colorado in 1997. Kyle was also one of the 34 grandchildren of the prominent Robert F. “Bobby” Kennedy and Ethel Kennedy.

Kyle was born on 6 July 1984 in Washington, D.C. to Michael Kennedy and Victoria Denise Gifford, the latter being the daughter of famed sports commentator Frank Gifford and actress Kathie Lee Gifford’s stepdaughter. She was raised in Cohasset, Massachusetts, and pursued higher education, earning a degree in history from Georgetown University followed by a master’s degree in early education from Pace University. She further enhanced her qualifications at Harvard University, where she obtained a master’s in education policy and management.
Professionally, Kyle made her mark as an educator with Teach for America, starting her career in New York City. She focused on early childhood education and was deeply committed to advocating for educational reforms benefiting disadvantaged children and individuals with disabilities. Through her work, she sought to create equitable opportunities for all students.
In 2012, Kyle married Liam Kerr in a ceremony at the Fairmont Copley Plaza in Boston, and together they welcomed twins, Conor and Josie. Tragically, just days after Josie’s birth, she passed away. A few years later, the couple welcomed another son, Declan. It’s worth noting that Kyle and Liam were separated at the time of her death.
In 2020, Kyle faced a life-altering challenge when she sustained a severe spinal cord injury, resulting in long-term paralysis. Displaying remarkable strength and resilience, she became an advocate for individuals with disabilities and spoke out against discrimination in healthcare during a hearing at the Massachusetts State House.
Kyle is survived by her two sons, Conor and Declan, aged 12 and 10 respectively, as well as her mother, Vicki, and siblings, including brother Michael and sister Rory. Additionally, she leaves behind her nieces and nephews: McKie, Quinn, Jack, and Caleb.
As the Kennedy family navigates this painful time, Kerry’s tribute highlights not only the personal loss felt by her family but also the positive impact Kyle had on her community through her work and advocacy. In concluding her heartfelt message, Kerry expressed hope that Kyle may find eternal peace among the angels alongside her father and daughter, Josie.
This loss serves as a stark reminder of the fragility of life, as well as the legacy of love and accomplishment that Kyle leaves behind. The community, alongside the Kennedy family, continues to remember her as a passionate educator and devoted mother whose spirit touched the lives of many.
