A 19-year-old woman has filed legal action alleging sexual assault by a member of a fraternity at the University of Chicago, a week after a separate incident involving another young woman was reported. The incident in question took place during a fraternity party held at the Alpha Delta Phi house on 7 February 2026.

The woman, who is referred to as Jane Doe in the civil complaint, claims she was assaulted shortly after arriving at the event, where she alleges she was served alcohol without being asked to show identification or receive any form of verification such as a wristband. According to her statement, it was a fraternity member who offered her a shot, leading to her becoming unsteady and lightheaded shortly thereafter.

In her grievance, Doe describes how she was led upstairs to a bedroom within the fraternity house by a male member of the organisation. She asserts that after informing him of her physical state, he nonetheless guided her to a bed, where the alleged assault took place. The complaint states that she subsequently lost all capacity to verbally refuse his advances, culminating in unwanted sexual contact that she did not consent to.
At one point during the incident, Doe requested that the fraternity brother wear a condom, but she claims he declined this request. She alleges that after the assault, she was left unconscious and alone in the bedroom, raising serious concerns about her wellbeing.
Meanwhile, a friend of Doe’s, after discovering her unconscious in the bedroom, attempted to reach her. The complaint reports that fraternity brothers obstructed the friend’s efforts to access her, further complicating an already troubling situation. Once the friend managed to find her, Doe was said to be struggling to communicate and needed assistance to exit the house.
Subsequently, Doe sought medical treatment at Illinois Masonic Hospital, where she reported the incident to law enforcement. Chicago Police confirmed that a report concerning the alleged assault had been filed.
In the wake of the allegations, the national chapter of Alpha Delta Phi issued a statement expressing their seriousness regarding the incident. They confirmed that the fraternity member implicated has been suspended and denounced the conduct described as troubling and contrary to the fraternity’s values. They expressed a commitment to safety within their community and assured cooperation with law enforcement, although they did not divulge specifics due to the active lawsuit.
Doe is now suing both the local and national chapters of Alpha Delta Phi, alleging negligence among other claims, and is seeking damages exceeding £200,000 along with costs. She has also requested a jury trial to address her claims.
This case follows closely on the heels of another reported sexual assault involving a different woman at a fraternity party, affiliated with the University of Chicago’s Alpha Epsilon Pi chapter, occurring just a week earlier. University officials provided a statement regarding that incident and issued alerts to students in light of the report. The fraternity involved stated that they would not host any events for the foreseeable future as investigations were underway.
It is notable that neither the second alleged victim nor the individual accused in that case were enrolled students at the university. The series of events have raised alarm within the university community, prompting calls for increased vigilance and safeguarding measures regarding student safety at social events sponsored by fraternities.
