Dolly Parton’s estate is entangled in a legal dispute with Bryan Seaver, the nephew of the late singer, as tensions build over allegations of evasion and misconduct. The estate, known as She’s Alive, is dedicated to safeguarding Parton’s business interests following her passing on August 25. Recent court filings reveal that Seaver has sought a delay in upcoming hearings due to difficulties in securing legal representation.

On October 2, Seaver submitted a motion to a Nashville court requesting the postponement of a hearing scheduled for October 9. According to court documents, he stated that he had been actively searching for legal counsel since receiving a restraining order and lawsuit from She’s Alive on September 23 but could only arrange a meeting with his preferred lawyer on October 5.

She’s Alive, in turn, objected to Seaver’s request, arguing that he had attempted to evade service of process. In their response, dated October 5, the estate outlined three separate instances where attempts to serve Seaver had been unsuccessful. Additionally, the documents noted alarming alterations to his residence, including the posting of a “no-trespassing” sign and the placement of barbed wire across his front steps.

The filing accused Seaver of using extreme methods to avoid being served the summons, stating, “This court should not reward that behaviour.” Furthermore, She’s Alive expressed doubt over Seaver’s claims regarding his search for legal representation, asserting that he failed to provide a lawyer’s name or a valid reason for his inability to meet court deadlines. The estate also claimed Seaver already had lawyers eager to take on his case.
Adding to the complexity of the situation, an email allegedly sent by Seaver on August 21 revealed aggressive language towards an unnamed recipient. In the message, he boasted about his intention to unleash his lawyers on the recipient, using threatening language that raised concerns among those involved in the court proceedings. This email was submitted as evidence in conjunction with the estate’s filings.
Seaver, who previously served as Parton’s head of security but was recently let go, has refuted all allegations against him. He described the restraining order as a “publicity stunt” and insisted he has never threatened anyone. In communication with several media outlets, Seaver characterised the context of certain statements made in court filings as being misconstrued.
The temporary restraining order currently in place against Seaver is set to expire on October 8. In light of the ongoing situation, She’s Alive has requested the court to extend this order until the upcoming hearing, unless it transforms into a temporary injunction beforehand.
Seaver, age 49 and the son of Parton’s sister Cassie, has faced significant accusations, including making “chilling” threats that referenced his military background. Former employees have reportedly resigned due to his alleged behaviour. Despite these claims, Seaver maintains that he has always regarded those in his professional circle as friends and colleagues.
As the court proceedings continue to unfold, this dispute highlights the complexities of managing an estate following the death of a high-profile individual. The outcome of the legal battle will not only impact Seaver but also the legacy and assets of Dolly Parton, which She’s Alive is striving to protect diligently. The next steps in this case are awaited, as both parties prepare for their forthcoming engagement in court.
