In an unexpected blend of theatre and finance, Broadway will welcome an unusual production this September. ‘Bill Pay The Musical’ is set to take the stage at the Broadhurst Theatre for a single performance on 25 September, featuring acclaimed actors Billy Porter, Billy Zane, and Jessica Vosk.

This one-night-only event is produced by Ramp, a financial technology firm that aims to promote its innovative bill-pay platform through musical entertainment. The production, featuring a full cast, original music, and elaborate choreography, is being heralded as an entertaining and unique approach to marketing financial software.
The concept of ‘Bill Pay The Musical’ draws inspiration from the fascinating yet often overlooked genre of “industrial musicals.” These elaborate productions were traditionally commissioned by corporations during the mid-20th century to celebrate their brands, entertain employees, and showcase their products in a theatrical setting. Eric Glyman, co-founder and co-CEO of Ramp, noted that the revival of such a theatrical form represents a comeback of corporate creativity in a modern context.
While prior industrial musicals often revolved around more glamorous themes, this new production will centre on less exciting, yet pertinent topics – specifically, invoices and the various individuals responsible for managing them. Ramp has a history of creatively engaging audiences, having previously produced content that turned financial operations into memorable cultural narratives, such as their satirical Super Bowl ad titled ‘Brian’s Office’.
‘Bill Pay The Musical’ is not the first of its kind; a similar promotional effort was staged in 2019 by skincare brand Olay. The production, ‘Olay Live: The Road to Glow’, was performed at New World Stages and starred notable talents, including Ana Gasteyer. The trend signifies a potential shift in marketing strategies, blending entertainment with brand promotion in innovative ways.
Billy Porter, renowned for his Tony Award-winning role as Lola in ‘Kinky Boots’, will take centre stage in this latest production. Zane, who gained fame for his portrayal of Cal Hockley in the iconic film ‘Titanic,’ brings his own Broadway experience, having performed in a previous run of ‘Chicago.’ Meanwhile, Jessica Vosk, celebrated for her performances in ‘Wicked’ and ‘Fiddler on the Roof,’ completes the trio of lead actors.
The cast will also feature Rema Webb, performing as the character Rampa, alongside a talented ensemble that includes Karli Dinardo, Katie Griffith, Indya Lincicome, Drew Minard, Shannon Mullen, Cole Newburg, Will Porter, and Brandon Stonestreet. The collaborative effort behind the scenes includes Kevin Zak, who has written the book, while Jason Michael Snow is responsible for the music and lyrics. Direction will be handled by Keaton Wooden, with choreography led by Antoinette DiPietropolo.
For theatre enthusiasts eager to experience this unique production, Ramp is offering a free ticket giveaway. Interested individuals can take part in the lottery by visiting the production’s website at billpaythemusical.com.
As the world of theatre continues to evolve, productions like ‘Bill Pay The Musical’ illustrate an innovative intersection of creativity and commerce. The show promises to blend humour with a relatable theme, potentially redefining how audiences engage with corporate narratives in an entertaining context. With a combination of established names and fresh talent, the event seeks to capture both the whimsy of Broadway and the pragmatic world of finance.
