During the episode, which aired on 2nd September, Andrews discussed the demanding nature of her job, which often involves standing for extended periods. “First of all, let’s talk about what goes on on the sidelines … you have to be in shape because you’re on your feet for four and a half hours,” she remarked, highlighting the physical demands of the role.
She elaborated on why stylish footwear, particularly heels, is unfeasible in such an environment. “You may have a fantastic outfit, but baby girl, you are wearing flats,” Andrews quipped, emphasising that the sideline environment is fraught with obstacles. These include the football field itself, cables, cameras, and the presence of large players. “There’s so much that you are high-stepping, tiptoeing, pointe-shoeing on. It is banana land,” she added.
When Cooper probed if she had ever attempted to wear heels while on duty, Andrews candidly expressed, “I can’t! I would sink.” Reflecting on her career, she mentioned that even in her earlier days as a reporter, she preferred comfort over high fashion. “I’m pretty much a tomboy anyway, and I like to be comfortable on my feet,” she noted. Earlier in the year, during a playoff game between the San Francisco 49ers and the Philadelphia Eagles, she donned a large faux fur coat, which generated a considerable buzz on social media. After the game, she admitted to Glamour that she was not aware of the online reactions until it concluded.
Reflecting on her choice of the fur coat, Andrews said that she wanted to bring something unique and fun to her appearance at the game. “I knew when my stylist, Daniela Romero, suggested I wear it that it was outside the box and super fun,” she explained. “I thought Philly was the best place to do it.” Notably, she added that during her first report wearing the coat, she was so focused on her work that she almost forgot about her striking outfit.
