An attempted burglary occurred at the home of Saquon Barkley, the running back for the Philadelphia Eagles, on Saturday morning, 18th July, while he and his family were present at the property in Tredyffrin Township, Pennsylvania. Fortunately, no injuries were reported, and Barkley’s family remained safe during the alarming incident.

In a statement released via social media, the Chester County District Attorney’s Office confirmed that a home invasion had taken place and expressed relief that the Barkley family emerged unscathed. “We are incredibly grateful that the Barkley family was not injured during this incident,” the office posted on Facebook, as they encouraged local residents to assist in the investigation by checking their home security footage for any suspicious activity around the time of the incident, estimated to be around 5:00 a.m.

The Tredyffrin Township Police Department is actively investigating the burglary, focusing on a large white SUV that is believed to be involved. Captain Tyler Moyer of the police department indicated that while they suspect multiple individuals may have been involved in the break-in, identifying the exact number remains ongoing. “We know there’s more than one, but we’re still trying to determine how many were involved,” he said. Upon arrival at the scene, officers reported that the suspects had fled, and while the family was understandably shaken, everyone inside the home was physically unharmed.
Saquon Barkley, 29, who shares two children—Jada, aged eight, and Saquon Jr., aged three—with his fiancée Anna Congdon—was present at the family home during this distressing event. Despite the unsettling nature of the incident, police have indicated that nothing appears to have been stolen from their residence.
This incident at Barkley’s home is part of a concerning trend, with several athletes’ residences falling victim to burglaries in recent years. An incident in May revealed that authorities in Chile arrested three individuals linked to an organised group accused of targeting the homes of various high-profile athletes, including names like Travis Kelce, Patrick Mahomes, Joe Burrow, and Luka Dončić. Such trends emphasise the ongoing risks faced by professional athletes, who may be perceived as prime targets due to their wealth and possessions.
Captain Moyer acknowledged the pattern of burglaries affecting athletes and expressed that the department is keen to investigate all avenues in light of this situation. “We know, obviously, it’s been all over the news in the past few years about different professional athletes’ homes getting burglarized,” he noted.
An FBI report obtained by ABC News in December 2024 indicated that athletes’ homes are increasingly viewed as lucrative targets for burglars due to the likelihood of high-end items such as designer goods, jewellery, and cash being present. The report detailed operations by organised theft groups from South America, which recorded elaborate burglaries of at least nine professional athletes’ homes between September and November 2024. These groups often used surveillance and social media to strategically plan the timing of their break-ins, taking advantage of the athletes’ absence.
The criminals employed sophisticated tactics, including bypassing alarm systems, utilising Wi-Fi jammers to disable security devices, and covering security cameras to hide their identities. This alarming trend of targeting professional athletes poses a significant concern, not only for their personal safety but also for the security of their families and homes.
As the investigation into the burglary at Barkley’s family home continues, calls for vigilance among local residents have grown. Authorities are urging neighbours in the Tredyffrin Township area to report any suspicious activity and to remain watchful, particularly in light of the recent events affecting community members.
In summary, the attempted burglary at Saquon Barkley’s home serves as a stark reminder of the potential dangers faced by athletes and their families. As the investigation unfolds, both the police and the community remain alert, hoping to bring those responsible for such acts to justice.
