Despite the lack of an Oscar win, Close has previously commented on her perspective regarding awards, suggesting that it might be “cool to never get” an Oscar and jokingly pondering the merits of receiving a lifetime achievement award instead.
Equally celebrated is Sir Ridley Scott, 88, a legendary British filmmaker known for his influential works including *Thelma & Louise*, *Gladiator*, and *Black Hawk Down*. His ability to craft compelling narratives has earned him multiple Academy Award nominations, and in 2015 he was nominated for Best Picture as a producer for *The Martian*, a film he directed himself.
Floyd Norman, 90, is a trailblazing animator whose work has left a lasting imprint on the industry. Notably, he collaborated with Walt Disney on classic animated films such as *Sleeping Beauty* and *The Jungle Book*. Recognised as Disney’s first regular Black animator, he later extended his talents to Hanna-Barbera Productions and Pixar, contributing as a writer for films like *The Hunchback of Notre Dame* and *Mulan*.
The Academy’s Honorary Award is conferred to individuals who demonstrate extraordinary distinction in lifetime achievement or exceptional contributions to the art and science of motion pictures. The award acknowledges both artistic accomplishments and service to the Academy itself.
Christine Vachon and Pamela Koffler, recipients of the Irving G. Thalberg Memorial Award, are founders of Killer Films, a production company known for its commitment to independent cinema. Their collaboration has led to the creation of critically acclaimed films such as *Boys Don’t Cry*, *Far From Heaven*, and *Carol*, as well as notable series like *Mildred Pierce*.
