Pat McAfee, the former NFL punter and current sports commentator, has announced the arrival of his second child, a son named Midas Robert McAfee. McAfee and his wife, Samantha, welcomed Midas following an emergency cesarean section due to complications linked to Samantha’s high-risk pregnancy, specifically severe preeclampsia. The birth took place on May 22nd, 2026, at 10:42 PM.

The couple, who are already parents to a two-year-old daughter named Mackenzie Lynn, shared the news of their son’s birth via social media platforms X and Instagram. In his heartfelt post, McAfee detailed the circumstances surrounding Midas’s arrival, inviting followers to welcome their new addition into the family.
Midas entered the world weighing 6 pounds and 6 ounces and immediately captured the hearts of his family. McAfee shared that the newborn came into life with “10 toes, 10 fingers, and a full head of hair.” However, the journey was not without its challenges, as Midas was born prematurely at 36 weeks and required a brief stay in the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU).
In his post, McAfee recounted the initial moments with his son, describing how Midas displayed resilience by increasing his oxygen levels, allowing him to spend time with his parents shortly after birth. Contemplating his baby boy’s future, McAfee expressed a mix of awe and excitement about the endless possibilities that lay ahead for him.
However, after the joyful moments, Midas was taken to the NICU for further monitoring, where he was placed on a CPAP machine and fitted with a feeding tube to support his development. Reflecting on the experience, McAfee noted the emotional challenge of seeing his son attached to medical equipment, while also providing a source of positivity during this trying time. For roughly 36 hours, Midas received the care he needed before rejoining his family.
Following Midas’s transfer back to their hospital room, the family celebrated with joy. McAfee and Samantha were eager for their daughter Mackenzie to meet her younger brother, and they conveyed their gratitude to family members who helped keep Mackenzie informed and entertained during their hospital stay.
In a nod to the significance of names, McAfee shared the reasoning behind naming their son Midas. He expressed a long-standing desire to name his child after the mythological figure known for his ability to turn everything he touched into gold. McAfee hopes that Midas will embody the values of hard work and community support throughout his life.
The middle name, Robert, serves as a tribute to Samantha’s late father, who McAfee described as his best friend. The couple intends to pass down stories and memories of “Bob” to ensure that Midas knows his grandfather, even though they never met.
