Garcelle Beauvais, the actress and prominent reality star, has revealed the inner turmoil that prompted her to leave *The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills* (RHOBH). Speaking at the People Inc. Black Affinity Group’s Legacy Chat series in New York City, the 59-year-old reflected candidly about her experiences on the show, which she joined in its tenth season.

During her time on RHOBH, Beauvais, who made history as the first Black cast member of the series, experienced unexpected fame. She reminisced about the surreal moment when a friend informed her that she was trending on Twitter, saying, “A friend of mine, Natalie, texted me and she’s like, ‘You’re trending on Twitter.’ And I was like, ‘Why? I’m making pork chops for the boys.’” This initial shock soon transformed into a significant career opportunity that broadened her audience and enhanced her brand recognition.
However, despite these professional advancements, Beauvais eventually felt a disconnection from the show’s environment. She candidly expressed that by the end of her RHOBH journey, her “spirit was no longer there.” This feeling became particularly clear to her during a pivotal reunion filming, where she realised she did not have supportive friendships among the cast. Reflecting on that moment, she stated, “When I sat on that reunion stage and looked around, I felt like I didn’t have any friends. And if the show is based on friendships, I didn’t have any friends on that show anymore.”

Beauvais encouraged others to consider their well-being, particularly women who may find themselves in toxic situations. Acknowledging the difficulty of her decision, especially given her background as an immigrant where quitting a job is not customary, Beauvais explained, “It was hard because, again, I’m an immigrant. You don’t leave jobs that are paying you, right? So that wasn’t an easy decision.” Nevertheless, she emphasised the importance of prioritising oneself, saying, “Once again, I had to choose me.”

This is our one time. There’s no do-overs.”
