A woman in California endured severe injuries after a shocking attack by a pack of stray dogs while strolling through her neighbourhood in Weston Ranch, Stockton. The incident occurred at around 11 a.m. on April 23, when Dorrie Reyes was reportedly approached by between seven to nine stray dogs, including German Shepherds and mixed breeds.

According to a GoFundMe page established to support her medical expenses, Dorrie encountered the aggressive pack during her walk. Before the attack, she managed to film the dogs as they approached her. Tragically, she became the target of their aggression shortly thereafter, suffering extensive wounds. Her son, Ronnie Reyes, confirmed to ABC 10 that his mother sustained between 150 to 200 lacerations and puncture wounds all over her body, with significant injuries to her head, face, arms, and legs. “They got her pretty bad,” he remarked, emphasising the severity of the situation.
During the terrifying ordeal, a couple nearby heard Dorrie’s desperate cries for help and rushed to her aid. The rescuers were described on the GoFundMe page as brave individuals, with Ronnie noting that one of them had a fear of dogs but still chose to intervene. “This could have been a lot worse,” he stated, highlighting the critical timing of their intervention.

Dorrie’s injuries were grave, leading to substantial blood loss and her subsequent hospitalisation. As per the GoFundMe updates, the general public is being kept informed about her recovery, with indications that she is making significant progress and maintaining a positive spirit thanks to the support from family and friends. The funding campaign aims to alleviate the financial burden for her medical and legal expenses, as she continues her journey towards recovery.
The community’s reaction has been one of concern and solidarity, particularly as Vice Mayor Jason Lee addressed the issue. He indicated that the city of Stockton is actively working to mitigate dangerous stray dog situations, which have become a growing concern. “This is also a community issue. Pet overpopulation and roaming animals don’t happen without a lack of responsible ownership,” Lee commented, stressing the importance of responsible pet stewardship.
As of now, it remains unclear whether any individuals will face charges in connection with the incident. Both the Stockton Police Department (SPD) and the Vice Mayor have been contacted for further clarification regarding ongoing investigations into the stray dog situation.
The attack on Dorrie Reyes has raised pressing questions about public safety and animal control in the area, provoking discussions on tackling the root causes of stray dog populations. For many residents, the horrifying incident serves as a clear call for action regarding community responsibility and animal welfare.
As her recovery continues, the community’s collective efforts through the GoFundMe page are a testament to the kindness and support that can emerge from adversity. Those wishing to contribute can still donate to assist Dorrie in her recovery process. Her family remains incredibly grateful for the outpouring of love and assistance, reflecting on the fragile nature of life and the importance of community ties during such challenging times.
