Bridget Bahl, the founder of The Bar fashion brand, has recently opened up about her personal battles and future aspirations during her appearance on Jay Shetty’s ‘On Purpose’ podcast on 29 April. The 42-year-old influencer candidly discussed a range of topics, from her struggles with cancer to her ongoing journey towards motherhood alongside her husband, Dr. Michael Chiodo.

Bahl’s life took a significant turn in September 2024 when she announced her diagnosis of stage 2 breast cancer to her 1.8 million followers on Instagram. This life-altering diagnosis coincided with her sixth attempt at IVF egg retrieval, interrupting her quest to start a family. However, in her conversation with Shetty, she expressed an unwavering belief in her dreams of motherhood, stating, “I don’t see a point in not believing I will become a mother.”

Reflecting on her personal journey, Bahl acknowledged the challenges that came with her diagnosis. “I don’t know if it will be the way I imagined it to be,” she noted, recalling how difficult it was to receive the news that carrying a child might not be possible for her. Nonetheless, Bahl maintained hope, saying, “I’m still like well, maybe I’ll carry a baby…I don’t know.”
A significant update in Bahl’s journey is her and Chiodo’s decision to explore surrogacy. She shared, “We have a surrogate now and we’re working on that. That’s quite a long process and such a beautiful thing that someone would want to do that and feels really called to make someone else a mother.” Her commitment to expanding their family remains steadfast despite the hurdles she faces.
Bahl’s relationship with Chiodo, a plastic surgeon, has grown stronger in the wake of her health challenges. In a February 2026 interview with PEOPLE, the couple discussed how they leaned on one another during extreme circumstances, revealing that the support they provided each other significantly enhanced their bond. Bahl expressed deep gratitude for Chiodo’s unwavering presence throughout her treatment, which included radiation, surgery, immunotherapy, and multiple rounds of chemotherapy.
Having the advantage of Chiodo’s medical expertise contributed to Bahl’s coping mechanisms during her treatment. She remarked that having a partner in the medical field was far more beneficial than relying on general online information, which often presented the most alarming scenarios. “It was actually very eye-opening for me and gave me just an unbelievable perspective on what some people have to go through,” he observed, emphasising the challenges faced by cancer patients as he witnessed Bahl’s journey firsthand.
Bahl’s experiences have also led her to reflect on the struggles of single mothers, as she drew inspiration from her own upbringing with her mother. “What would she have done?” was a question that frequently occupied her mind during her toughest moments. This perspective on resilience and support highlights the importance of having a strong partner during challenging times.
Together, Bahl and Chiodo continue to navigate the complexities of health challenges and family planning. Their commitment to each other, coupled with Bahl’s strong belief in her future as a mother, presents a hopeful narrative amidst the trials they have faced.
As they embark on this new chapter with surrogacy, Bahl emphasised her conviction that her husband is destined to be a wonderful father, saying, “I just know Mike will be the best dad, and he deserves it.” This optimistic outlook encapsulates the essence of their journey—a testament to love, support, and the pursuit of dreams even in the face of adversity.
As Bridget Bahl continues to share her story with the world, she stands as a beacon of hope for many who may face similar challenges, inspiring them to hold onto their dreams of family and love despite the unforeseen obstacles that life may present.
