Singer Joey Fatone has recounted a frightening health incident that occurred during his time with the iconic boy band *NSYNC while on tour. In a new documentary titled *Boy Band Confidential: Deep Cuts*, Fatone candidly discusses the pressures of fame and the unexpected challenges that come with it, including a serious health scare related to his intimate wellbeing.

The incident, which he describes vividly, took place while the group was travelling through rural Northern California. Fatone recalls the moment he noticed swelling in a particularly sensitive area, leading him to contact Dave Brown, the band’s tour manager. “There’s something wrong with my ballsack,” he reportedly explained, highlighting both the urgency and the awkwardness of the situation.

Brown, who has also worked with the Backstreet Boys, provided a backdrop to the event, noting the isolated location made the urgency of the situation even more pressing. Fatone remembered, “We were deep somewhere in Northern California, and I was just thinking, what are you going to find out here? A veterinarian?”

The swelling prompted Fatone to seek advice just before a performance. Initially, a doctor visited his hotel room, but the issue did not seem serious at that point as Fatone felt no pain. “The doctor asked if it hurt when I urinated and everything was fine,” he shared, reflecting on how the initial assessment did little to prepare him for the worsening condition he would experience later that evening.

After performing, Fatone went to shower on the tour bus and was alarmed to find that his swelling had only intensified. “The bag is even swollen bigger and my manhood looked like it had a welt,” he explained. In a moment of panic, he approached Brown once more for help, stating, “Dave, we need to go to a doctor.” However, the tour schedule presented a complication as they were due to travel to the next city.

To Brown’s credit, upon seeing the severity of Fatone’s condition, he promptly changed his stance, stating, “We’ve got to go to a hospital right now.” Unfortunately, there were no suitable medical facilities available at their current location, so Fatone had to wait until he could receive medical attention at the next venue.

Upon arrival, Fatone was examined by a doctor who diagnosed the issue as inflammation. The medical professional reassured him that it was not as dire as it seemed and prescribed antibiotics. Fatone expressed relief as he described, “The next day, it was gone.”

Reflecting on the entire experience, Fatone attributed the swelling to an unfortunate physical reaction to his vigorous on-stage performances. “What happened was the wires get criss-crossed, I think from me dancing. I hit something to where it got inflamed and swelled up as, obviously, a defence mechanism,” he explained, bringing a touch of humour to an otherwise concerning episode.
