Comedian Bert Kreischer recently experienced a dramatic incident with his tour bus, which was completely engulfed in flames on Sunday, March 15. The unsettling event occurred while travelling on Interstate 94, situated just over an hour from Fargo, North Dakota, where he had performed the previous evening. The 53-year-old stand-up star, known for his lively performances and the new Netflix series “Free Bert,” took to Instagram to share an image of the charred remains of the bus with his followers.

In an interview following the event, Kreischer expressed profound relief that he and his team were unharmed. He remarked, “We are all counting our blessings today,” highlighting the fortunate circumstances that led to their escape from potential danger.

The comedian’s team was travelling between performances, having just finished a show in Fargo and en route to Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Kreischer reiterated how close they came to being on the bus at the time of the fire. In a post to his Instagram Stories, he reflected on the incident, stating, “We would have all been on it asleep… [we] would have been dead.”

According to Kreischer, the disaster began just after midnight when a tyre on the front right side of the bus unexpectedly blew out. He described the situation as a “fluke accident,” noting it was neither the driver’s fault nor due to any obstacles on the road. The team had waited on the shoulder of the highway for a couple of hours while arrangements were made for repairs.

Realising the situation was unsafe, the crew opted to vacate the bus and transfer to their other two vehicles. Unfortunately, a few hours later, the driver who remained with the damaged bus heard a “pop” from the roof just before a thick smoke suddenly enveloped the vehicle. Kreischer recounted the driver’s swift exit, with the bus transforming into an inferno almost instantaneously.

Emergency services were called, and the comedian later shared videos of the fire on his Instagram Stories, capturing the surreal moment. In a lighter tone, Kreischer played Johnny Cash’s “Ring of Fire” to add some levity to the otherwise distressing situation. He reassured fans that he and his team were safe, despite the devastating loss of the bus and the belongings inside.

The aftermath of the incident proved to be challenging, as Kreischer and his crew lost clothing and personal items that they had left behind. Undeterred, the group made their way to a Dick’s Sporting Goods store to purchase replacements, and Kreischer humorously posted a photo showcasing his “current & only outfit,” a clear indication of the situation’s upheaval.

Reflecting on their narrow escape, Kreischer expressed gratitude for their safety. He remarked on the timing of the tyre blowout, which, although frustrating, ultimately spared their lives. He concluded, saying, “The Lord works in mysterious ways,” contemplating how they had managed to avoid a far more tragic outcome.
