A former substitute teacher and her boyfriend have been indicted in Texas on numerous charges relating to the alleged sexual abuse of a five-year-old girl. Madison Paige Jones, 30, and Zackery Dondlinger, 37, were both indicted on 4 March, facing a total of 39 indictments between them. Jones is facing 19 counts, which include aggravated sexual assault of a child and possession of child pornography, while Dondlinger is charged with 20 similar counts.

The decision to indict both individuals indicates that a grand jury found sufficient evidence for the case to continue to trial. The evidence reportedly emerged after authorities were alerted by a woman claiming to be a friend of Jones, who expressed concerns about Dondlinger’s inappropriate behaviour towards the young child believed to have been abused in Jones’s care.

Furthermore, she disclosed that he harboured sexual fantasies about the child. The investigation uncovered that Jones had allegedly sent videos of the abusive acts to Dondlinger via Snapchat, purportedly to fulfil his sexual desires. Text messages exchanged between the two further corroborated this, according to affidavits obtained by local media.
Authorities arrested Jones on 19 December 2022, following the initial reports, and Dondlinger was taken into custody a few days later on 23 December while at his workplace on an oil rig. At the time of their arrests, both were reportedly in a romantic relationship.
Jones was a substitute teacher for the Midlothian Independent School District, having worked for a total of just four days over the previous year. A spokesperson for the district confirmed that her employment has been terminated and added that the alleged crimes did not occur on school premises nor involved any students of the district.
The bond amounts for both suspects have been significantly increased in light of the recent charges. Jones’s bond was raised from $90,000 to an astounding $3.84 million, and Dondlinger’s bond climbed from $200,000 to $5 million. This dramatic escalation in bond suggests the seriousness with which the court is treating the allegations against them.
