A former Miss Universe Australia finalist, Elizabeth Kalash, along with her father, Amir, displayed exceptional courage as they thwarted thieves during an attempted carjacking in Melbourne. The incident unfolded on Tuesday, Dec. 2, when three assailants targeted the Kalash family in Coburg.
In a heart-pounding turn of events, Elizabeth, 28, sprang into action to protect her father, who is 60 years old, from the violent onslaught by the carjackers. The thieves attempted to steal their car, but the Kalashes refused to go down without a fight, as captured in footage shared by 9News Australia.
Elizabeth described the harrowing experience, stating, “I saw my father get pushed, shoved, assaulted, thrown to the ground, and obviously tried to defend him. They tried to attack me and then after that they fled off and then came back to collect items they’d dropped.”
The confrontation escalated when one of the suspects was confronted by a male victim at a residential address on May Street. Subsequently, a stolen silver Lexus arrived, from which another man and woman alighted and joined the fray. The male offender assaulted the male victim, leading to him falling to the ground as they made their escape in the stolen vehicle.
Remarkably, the Kalashes’ quick reflexes and determination turned the tables on the assailants, with Elizabeth recounting, “It was definitely a fight reaction and the adrenaline definitely kicked in for me.” The Kalash patriarch, Amir, bravely stood his ground, but not without suffering injuries, including a serious foot injury that required hospitalization.
After the traumatic incident, Elizabeth shared, “As I saw my father hit the ground … your heart genuinely breaks. I could not visually see what happened to my father and I didn’t know … what was going to happen to him with him being on the ground.”
The police have released descriptions of the suspects involved in the carjacking attempt, believed to be two men and a woman aged between 35 and 40. The authorities are urging anyone with information to come forward to assist in apprehending the culprits.
In the wake of the attack, Elizabeth expressed feeling unsafe in her own home, emphasizing the need for heightened caution even in one’s sanctuary. The traumatic event has left both Elizabeth and Amir in a state of shock, but they remain thankful for surviving the ordeal.
