Meghan Markle and Prince Harry have recently unveiled a major new partnership aimed at protecting children from the dangers of artificial intelligence (AI) and online threats. The exclusive announcement, made by PEOPLE, revealed that The Parents’ Network from the couple’s Archewell Foundation is teaming up with ParentsTogether, a national nonprofit organisation dedicated to advocating for families and online safety.

The collaboration between The Parents’ Network and ParentsTogether comes at a crucial time when new research underscores the urgent need for increased parental support and stronger legislation to safeguard children from AI-related risks in a rapidly evolving digital landscape. Shocking findings from ParentsTogether indicate that investigators posing as children on AI chatbot platforms encountered harmful interactions every five minutes, highlighting the pressing need for action.
Initially established in 2022 as a support community for families in the U.S. who have lost children to social media-driven tragedies, The Parents’ Network will now expand its reach and impact through the partnership with ParentsTogether. This development aligns with Meghan and Harry’s commitment to ensuring a safer online environment for their own children – son Prince Archie, 6, and daughter Princess Lilibet, 4. The couple’s dedication to this cause has earned them recognition as the Humanitarians of the Year at Project Healthy Minds’ World Mental Health Day Gala.

Reflecting on the significance of this collaboration, the co-executive directors of the Archewell Foundation, James Holt and Shauna Nep, emphasised the evolving digital landscape and the critical need to protect children from online harms. They highlighted the growing momentum behind legislative efforts and the essential role of advocacy in creating a safer online space for children. The partnership with ParentsTogether will provide The Parents’ Network with enhanced advocacy capabilities, legislative expertise across all 50 states, and a platform for driving change at both state and federal levels.

Ailen Arreaza, executive director of ParentsTogether, expressed optimism about the joint initiative, emphasizing the power of storytelling in preventing similar tragedies and driving comprehensive reforms. By leveraging the shared expertise and resources of both organisations, the partnership aims to raise public awareness and advocate for meaningful changes to online safety policies.
Meghan and Harry’s commitment to this cause was further underscored by the unveiling of The Lost Screen Memorial earlier this year in New York City. The poignant installation featured 50 smartphones, each displaying the lock screen photo of a child whose life had been impacted by the negative effects of social media. The personal stories shared by parents through the Archewell Foundation Parents’ Network served as a poignant reminder of the importance of creating safer online spaces for children.
In a candid interview with CBS Sunday Morning in August 2024, Meghan and Harry shared their perspectives on the challenges of ensuring online safety as parents. Recognising the critical role of parents as first responders in the digital age, the couple highlighted the need for collective action to protect children from online threats and promote mental well-being.
As Meghan eloquently put it, “When we lost Anna, there was no light in the darkness. When TPN [The Parents’ Network] came along, it gave me a community to share all those thoughts and feelings, and to realize I wasn’t alone,” illustrating the profound impact of community support in times of adversity. Through their ongoing advocacy and partnership with ParentsTogether, Meghan and Harry are championing a cause that is not only close to their hearts as parents but also crucial for shaping a safer digital future for all children.
