The incident also claimed the lives of former MLB players Octavio Dotel and Tony Blanco, as well as Nelsy Cruz, the governor of the northwestern province of Montecristi.
Antonio Espaillat had initially pledged to cooperate with the investigation following the tragedy, expressing his condolences to the families of the victims. In a local TV interview, he conveyed deep remorse and stated, “I am completely destroyed. There are no words to express the pain this event has caused.”
