Former Bachelorette star DeAnna Pappas has spoken out for the first time after being taken into custody earlier this year. The incident involved an altercation with her ex-husband, Stephen Stagliano, during a custody exchange. Allegations were made by Stagliano, claiming that Pappas was drunk and assaulted him, while Pappas countered by stating that he had pushed her first.

In a statement released on her Instagram Stories on April 3, Pappas addressed the situation and clarified the outcome of the investigation. The statement revealed that detectives determined she was not the primary aggressor in the incident, and as a result, no criminal charges were filed against her.
Pappas’ spokesperson shared that, in the best interest of their children, she voluntarily withdrew a temporary restraining order to facilitate a cooperative agreement with her ex-husband. This decision aimed to shield the children from prolonged conflict and maintain their privacy amid the public scrutiny surrounding the incident.
As the legal proceedings continue, Pappas emphasized her commitment to protecting her children from further emotional distress. She urged the media to refrain from speculating on the matter and to avoid narratives that could impact the well-being of her children. The statement concluded by stating that Pappas would not be making any further comments at that time.
Court documents revealed that Stagliano’s mother had raised concerns about alcohol consumption during a custody exchange on February 26. Following their divorce in June 2024 after 11 years of marriage, Pappas and Stagliano co-parent their two children, daughter Addison and son Austin.
Pappas responded to the allegations, recounting an incident where Stagliano confronted her about her sobriety during a custody exchange and subsequent altercation in their garage. She claimed that Stagliano had pushed her and refused to leave despite her requests. The situation escalated, leading to a physical confrontation between the former couple.
Despite Stagliano’s accusations and subsequent charges against Pappas, she voluntarily underwent drug and alcohol testing, which returned negative results. Pappas contested the allegations, asserting that they were fabricated attempts to alienate her from their children.
The former couple’s divorce agreement outlined joint custody arrangements and guidelines to maintain a positive environment for their children. Among the provisions was an agreement not to make negative comments about each other in front of their children and to refrain from excessive alcohol consumption during custody periods.
DeAnna Pappas’ recent legal troubles have brought attention to the complexities of co-parenting dynamics post-divorce and the importance of protecting children from the fallout of parental conflicts. As the situation unfolds, Pappas remains focused on safeguarding her children’s well-being and respecting their right to privacy amidst media scrutiny.
