A Miami woman is facing serious charges after being accused of attempting to murder a man by setting him ablaze. Tanisha Shelton has been charged with attempted first-degree murder and arson following the shocking incident that allegedly occurred on Saturday, 24 October.

According to the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office, the event unfolded after Shelton had reportedly engaged in a heated argument with the victim, 33-year-old Nathaniel Devon Mathis, hours prior to the attack. The arrest affidavit reveals that Shelton had threatened to leave and seek out someone to harm Mathis during their dispute.
Several hours later, Shelton returned to the scene carrying a bucket, which contained a plastic bag filled with a flammable substance. Allegedly, she then borrowed a lighter from a witness who was present at the time and proceeded to douse Mathis with the accelerant before igniting it, setting him on fire.
Authorities reported that Mathis sustained critical injuries, with significant burns covering approximately 80% of his body. He was discovered unconscious by police and remains in a critical condition, with medical professionals indicating that he is not expected to survive his injuries.
