A mother from Sydney, Australia, arrived home to find her house damaged after a bus crashed into it. The incident occurred on Tuesday, Feb. 4, just before 10 a.m. local time on Aplin Road in Bonnyrigg Heights. Fortunately, the mother, Fayruz Sebo, and her three children were not at home during the crash as they were at school. Sebo expressed gratitude that her children were safe, stating, “Thank God that they’re all at school … We just went [to a] normal day of work and the kids went to school so I just dropped them at school … and I wasn’t expecting anything like that.”

According to reports from Australian outlets 9News and ABC, the bus crash caused significant damage to the front of the property, leading to the collapse of part of the house. Sebo shared her feelings of sadness about the damage, saying, “I’m just sad. The house of my kids and family we lived in for a while now it’s down, so I don’t know what to do.” She mentioned that the garage, living room, and children’s bedrooms were among the areas affected by the crash.

The bus driver, believed to be in his 50s, sustained minor injuries and was taken to Liverpool Hospital for precautions. A neighbour, Zaid Hilayel, who heard the crash likened it to the sound of a bomb and rushed to assist the passengers. Hilayel recounted the scene, stating, “They were all sitting in the back, they were shocked. I opened the door because the door was jammed and then they came out. They just wanted to get out of there.” He also checked on Sebo’s home to ensure the safety of her children.
Six individuals received treatment for minor injuries at the scene, while the authorities, including NSW Fire and Rescue and the police, are investigating the cause of the crash. NSW Fire and Rescue’s Superintendent Adam Dewberry confirmed that the house’s structural integrity has been assessed as safe despite some damage. However, the investigation into what led to the crash is still ongoing.
The community response to the incident highlighted the importance of safety measures in residential areas and the prompt actions of both neighbours and emergency services. The incident serves as a reminder of the unpredictable nature of accidents, emphasizing the need for vigilance and preparedness in ensuring the well-being of individuals and properties. As the investigation continues, residents in the area are urged to stay informed and follow any safety guidance provided by the authorities.
The quick response from neighbours like Hilayel underscores the significance of community solidarity in times of crisis. The collaborative efforts of individuals in ensuring the safety and well-being of others are essential in mitigating the impact of such unforeseen events. The support and aid extended to Sebo and her family demonstrate the resilience and compassion within the local community during challenging circumstances.
Moving forward, the incident serves as a catalyst for reflection on safety protocols and emergency preparedness, both at the individual and community levels. By learning from such incidents and remaining vigilant, communities can enhance their resilience and response capabilities to unforeseen emergencies. The collaboration between residents, emergency services, and authorities underscores the collective responsibility in safeguarding lives and properties within neighbourhoods.
