Halle Berry, the acclaimed actress, was recently seen in public with her fiancé Van Hunt amid serious allegations from her ex-husband Olivier Martinez. The couple was spotted on 15 October, just a few weeks after Martinez filed a temporary restraining order against Berry, claiming abusive behaviour towards their 13-year-old son, Maceo. Martinez, who was married to Berry from 2013 until their divorce in 2015, submitted a petition on 1 October asserting that he should receive sole custody of Maceo. In his filing, he alleged that Berry had exhibited abusive behaviour towards their child, stating that he had suffered “emotional and mental distress” due to these actions. As per Martinez’s claim, an incident occurred on 26 September in which Berry allegedly “choked” Maceo while shouting “Who is dominant now?! Who is dominant?”
The situation has escalated, leading to a Los Angeles County judge granting Martinez a temporary restraining order for both himself and their son. Following the allegations, Berry has vehemently denied the claims, stating in a declaration filed on 5 October that she has “never physically, emotionally, or otherwise abused Maceo.” Berry described herself as a victim of domestic violence, asserting, “I would never hurt our child.”
In the midst of these allegations, Berry and her fiancé were seen in casual clothing, suggesting an attempt to maintain a semblance of normalcy. Hunt, 56, and Berry, 60, appeared relaxed while walking through a parking lot, possibly indicating support during these trying times.
Martinez not only sought a restraining order but also requested sole custody of Maceo. Despite the turmoil, a judge permitted Berry to have unsupervised visits with Maceo, which are scheduled twice during the week and every other weekend. A hearing concerning the restraining order is scheduled for 19 October. Martinez’s attorney articulated that their primary concern lies in the well-being and safety of Maceo. On the other hand, Berry’s legal counsel has dismissed Martinez’s claims as “entirely meritless and deliberately misleading,” reflecting the contentious nature of the proceedings.
In previous agreements made in May 2024, both parties had consented to engage in co-parenting therapy to address and resolve their conflicts in an effort to better support Maceo. Those close to the situation have suggested that the couple’s differing parenting styles have contributed to their difficulties in co-parenting successfully.
