Patricia Arquette, the acclaimed actress, recently shared some insights into her parenting journey in an exclusive interview. Known for her roles in films and TV shows, Patricia candidly discussed a particular aspect of parenting where she feels she fell short. As she discussed her new Hulu series, “Murdaugh: Death in the Family,” the 57-year-old actress revealed that she believes she wasn’t always great at normalizing healthy practices and discussing emotions with her children.
The award-winning actress is a mother to two children, daughter Harlow, 22, and son Enzo, 36. Patricia expressed that she acknowledges her past mistakes and the importance of being attentive and present as a parent. She emphasised the significance of not getting accustomed to unhealthy behaviours and stressed the need to have open conversations about feelings and accountability within the family.

Reflecting on her own upbringing marked by challenges like substance abuse and betrayal within her family, Patricia shared how these experiences influenced her parenting style. Raised in an environment where her father struggled with alcoholism, she recognised the impact it had on her perception of relationships and communication.
Patricia welcomed her son Enzo in 1989 with her former partner, Paul Rossi, while her daughter Harlow was born in 2003 during the filming of the movie “Boyhood” with her then-partner, Thomas Jane. Despite the ups and downs in her personal life, Patricia expressed that motherhood has been the most significant role she has taken on in her life.

Her daughter, Harlow, has followed in her mother’s footsteps by venturing into acting. Despite initially hesitating to pursue a career in the entertainment industry, Harlow eventually discovered her passion for acting. However, she admitted that seeing her mother on screen doesn’t evoke the same magic for her as Patricia will forever be just “Mom” to her.
During a recent event at the Elton John AIDS Foundation Oscars Viewing Party, Patricia and Harlow shared insights into their close mother-daughter relationship. Harlow expressed her admiration for her mother’s work but emphasised that to her, Patricia will always be just Mom, above all else. Patricia reciprocated the sentiment by stating that her main priority is to establish an authentic and genuine relationship with her children, shielded from external influences.
As Patricia reflected on her own parenting philosophy, she reiterated the importance of prioritizing her children’s needs over her own desires. She highlighted the significance of guiding children to be independent individuals while instilling values of respect and kindness towards others. Ultimately, Patricia believes that nurturing a strong parent-child bond built on trust and authenticity is key to raising well-rounded individuals.
In a world where celebrity families often face public scrutiny, Patricia Arquette stands out for her grounded approach to motherhood and her commitment to maintaining a healthy and genuine relationship with her children. As she continues to navigate the complexities of parenting in the spotlight, Patricia’s candid revelations serve as a reminder of the universal challenges and joys that come with raising children.
