Kentucky Fried Chicken (KFC) fans have reason to celebrate as the popular fast-food chain announces the long-awaited comeback of its beloved Potato Wedges. After a hiatus of five years, the seasoned and chunky potato side is set to reappear on menus nationwide starting Monday, August 18. The news comes after KFC reintroduced Potato Wedges in select locations in Tampa, Florida earlier this year, much to the delight of fans.
According to a press release obtained by PEOPLE, the decision to bring back the iconic side dish follows a period of intense debate among customers. The removal of Potato Wedges in 2020 marked the end of a legacy that began in the mid-90s when the dish was first added to KFC menus. In their absence, Secret Recipe Fries took their place in July 2020, but the return of Potato Wedges does not mean bidding farewell to the fries, as both items will now coexist on the menu.

In addition to the Potato Wedges, another fan favorite is making a comeback at KFC – the Hot & Spicy Wings. These wings, marinated in a spicy blend and double-breaded for extra crunch, will also return to menus on August 18. Like the Potato Wedges, the Hot & Spicy Wings were previously removed from menus in 2023, adding to the excitement surrounding their return.

Fast-food chains like KFC are not the only ones tapping into nostalgia to please their customers. McDonald’s, a rival in the industry, recently introduced the McDonaldland Meal, harking back to the chain’s iconic characters from the early 1970s commercials. The meal includes a choice of a Quarter Pounder with cheese or a 10-piece Chicken McNuggets, fries, and the new Mt. McDonaldland Shake, offering a taste of the past for modern-day customers.
With the re-introduction of the Potato Wedges and Hot & Spicy Wings, KFC is aiming to cater to the preferences and demands of its loyal customer base while also attracting new patrons looking for a taste of nostalgia. The nationwide relaunch of these classic menu items speaks to the enduring popularity and appeal of KFC’s signature offerings, reminding customers of the chain’s rich culinary heritage.
As the fast-food industry continues to evolve and cater to changing consumer tastes, KFC’s decision to bring back the Potato Wedges and Hot & Spicy Wings signals a commitment to meeting the demands of its customers while staying true to its roots. The return of these fan-favorite items is sure to reignite excitement among KFC enthusiasts across the country, as they eagerly anticipate indulging in their beloved comfort foods once again.
