A convicted serial rapist, feared to have many more victims across various countries, has caused panic among authorities. Zhenhao Zou, a 28-year-old Chinese Ph.D. student, recently faced judgment in London for drugging and raping 10 women in the UK and China. The Metropolitan Police Service revealed that Zou, who resided in the UK starting in 2017 as a student at Queen’s University Belfast and University College London, may have committed crimes beyond the known cases, with 23 additional women coming forward post-conviction.

Law enforcement officials are deeply concerned as they suspect there could be over 50 unidentified victim-survivors linked to Zou’s predatory actions. Investigations disclosed that Zou engaged with women through social media platforms and dating apps, such as WeChat, Little Red Book, and Bumble. Under the pretense of studying or sharing a drink, Zou would invite these women to his central London residence. Inside, he would drug them, causing them to lose consciousness, and then film himself committing sexual assaults.
Following a brave woman’s report, a search of Zou’s residence led the authorities to discover incriminating evidence, including substances used for drugging, hidden cameras, laptops, and mobile phones that exposed the full extent of his crimes. One victim, identified as “Rachel,” recounted her harrowing experience to the BBC, disclosing how she was incapacitated after Zou spiked her drink during a visit to his apartment in Dongguan, China. Their testimonies shed light on the manipulative and deplorable conduct of the convicted rapist.
Detective Kevin Southworth of the Met Police condemned Zou’s actions, labelling him as a dangerous and prolific sexual predator who preyed on women through manipulation and drugging. Urging other potential victims to come forward, Southworth emphasized the authorities’ commitment to supporting all those affected by Zou’s reprehensible deeds. Zou was found guilty of multiple offenses, including rape, voyeurism, possession of extreme pornographic material, false imprisonment, and intent to commit sexual offenses.
