A former teacher’s aide, Shaun Stebbins, aged 44, has been charged with a series of serious offences, including the manufacturing of child sexual abuse material and aggravated sexual assault. The allegations against Stebbins stem from events that transpired while he was employed at Woodbine Elementary School in Cape May, where he worked from February 2022 until his arrest in March.
Authorities in New Jersey have unveiled a disturbing series of accusations suggesting that Stebbins photographed and filmed children in compromising situations, including capturing images of their genitals in school bathrooms. In shocking allegations, it has been reported that he recorded himself performing sexual acts on children both in the school bathrooms and during nap times, as stated in court documents.

Stebbins was already facing charges earlier this year for sexually assaulting children in his home over a period exceeding ten years. Investigations were instigated when an adult male, one of the victims from his home, came forward in March, leading prosecutors to delve deeper into Stebbins’ history of misconduct.

According to the Cape May County Prosecutor’s Office, the latest charges against Stebbins include 29 counts of manufacturing child sexual abuse material, five counts of aggravated sexual assault, and multiple counts of endangering the welfare of a child. These troubling revelations underscore the alleged abuses taking place during his tenure as a prekindergarten teacher’s aide.
Evidence obtained during a search of Stebbins’ electronic devices reportedly revealed a plethora of disturbing images and videos. Prosecutors have outlined that Stebbins documented sexual acts involving children and made recordings of their private parts, raising serious concerns regarding the safety of children in his care.
Details in the initial allegations date back to 2012, as Atlantic County prosecutors allege that Stebbins committed sexual acts against numerous children under the age of 13. The investigation has since expanded to encompass not only the alleged acts committed at his residence but also incidents that took place while he was employed at the educational institution.
The Woodbine School District has not issued an immediate comment regarding the unfolding situation, and attempts to reach Stebbins’ attorney were unsuccessful. Meanwhile, Stebbins remains in custody at the Atlantic County Correctional Facility as the case unfolds.
Cape May County Prosecutor Jeffrey H. Sutherland issued a statement emphasising the importance of safeguarding vulnerable individuals, particularly children. He stated, “Children are among our most vulnerable population, and we have a responsibility to protect their safety and well-being. Anyone who harms a child will be held accountable through our justice system.”
The comprehensive investigation into Shaun Stebbins continues as the authorities aim to bring justice to the victims and ensure that such heinous acts are met with appropriate legal consequences. As further details emerge, the community remains on high alert, grappling with the unsettling reality of the allegations against him. The case has raised critical questions about child safety in educational environments and the responsibilities entrusted to those in positions of care.
