Pete Davidson has spoken candidly about the profound impact his daughter has had on his journey towards sobriety. In a recent interview with Variety, the former Saturday Night Live star detailed how being a father has helped him stay away from drugs and alcohol. Davidson, who welcomed his daughter Scottie with ex-partner Elsie Hewitt in December 2025, opened up about the challenges he faced and the positive changes in his life since becoming a parent.

The 32-year-old comedian shared that he has been drug-free for two to three years and has refrained from marijuana for over a year. “Weirdly, the hardest thing to stop was weed,” he explained. He noted that having a child has made it easier for him to resist temptation, stating, “Anytime there’s ever a thought, I look at my phone background and go, ‘Oh yeah, no.’”

Davidson also reflected on a major purchase he made in January 2022: a Staten Island Ferry he acquired with fellow comedian Colin Jost. He was candid about how fatherhood has influenced his decisions, explaining that if he had been a father at that time, buying the ferry wouldn’t have made sense for him. Jost humorously remarked that the ferry could serve as a future investment for Scottie, to which Davidson replied, “Scottie will inherit this one day.”
The actor-comedian expressed his excitement about being a parent, describing it as a “real joy.” He mentioned his anticipation for the day when Scottie could experience unique adventures, stating, “I can’t wait for her to come and see wacky stuff like this. That’s gonna be so cool.”
Earlier in June, Davidson celebrated Father’s Day with a family outing, taking his then-six-month-old daughter and his mother, Amy Waters Davidson, to the American Museum of Natural History. An insider revealed that he wanted Scottie to see some of New York’s most iconic museums, even at such a young age. The day was described as sweet and memorable, filled with the warmth of family time.
Reports highlight that Davidson has been making efforts to adjust his work commitments, significantly reducing his travel to spend more time with his daughter. This shift in priorities underscores the dedication he feels towards fatherhood, having previously spoken to PEOPLE about how it has transformed him as a person.
However, the personal aspect of his life has not been without challenges. PEOPLE confirmed that Davidson and Hewitt had ended their relationship in May, shortly after the birth of their daughter. Sources close to the couple indicated that they had been trying to navigate their relationship struggles prior to their split.
Despite this, Davidson remains positive about his parenting journey. In March of this year, he mentioned that being a father is both a “rewarding and exhausting” experience, while praising Hewitt as an exceptional mother. His heartfelt remarks portray a man who values his role as a dad and acknowledges the challenges of co-parenting.
As he continues to evolve, Davidson’s journey offers a glimpse into the transformative power of parenthood and the personal growth that can accompany it. With his daughter by his side, he remains committed to fostering a healthy lifestyle while also sharing joyful moments as a family.
