Iconic actress Stockard Channing stepped back into the limelight on August 26, 2023, as she graced the red carpet for the premiere of *Practical Magic 2* at the Odeon Luxe Leicester Square in London. This event marked Channing’s first red carpet appearance in two years, reigniting interest in her storied career.

At the age of 82, Channing recently opened up about her life in a reflective essay published in *The Sunday Times* earlier this month. In her candid piece, she discussed the challenges she has faced following the death of her long-time partner, Daniel Gillham, in 2014. The loss profoundly impacted her life, leading her to adopt a quieter lifestyle that she seems content with.

Channing recalled how the emotional toll of losing Gillham shifted not only her outlook but also her living arrangements. “My partner, Daniel, died in 2014 and it was more devastating than I realised; it had a lag effect,” she shared. “The pattern of my life shifted, so I shifted my life from Maine.” After spending time in New England, she decided to move to London shortly before the Covid pandemic hit, seeking solitude and a fresh start.

In her essay, Channing expressed her contentment with a reclusive existence, stating, “I’ve lived alone since I lost Daniel and I’m happy being a recluse.” She shared that her move to London was influenced by both personal and political factors, affecting her desire to distance herself from the United States.

Having navigated four marriages throughout her life, Channing confirmed that she has no intentions of seeking another romantic partner. “No, I think that would be such a pain in the ass. I’m consolidating, thank you very much,” she commented in a previous interview. “I’m very happy with the friends I have. No. Life is good. Life is very good.”

With the release of *Practical Magic 2*, Channing reprises her well-loved role as Frances “Franny” Owens. In this sequel, she joins a powerhouse cast that includes Sandra Bullock and Nicole Kidman, who portray the titular characters Sally and Gillian Owens, respectively.
