A young man believed to have caused a wave of panic in Philadelphia by wearing a sinister Chucky-style mask has been apprehended in Las Vegas. The suspect, Zymire Hughes, aged 22, was taken into custody on 25 August following a series of alarming incidents that reportedly led him to flee the city.

The U.S. Marshals Service announced that Hughes was located and arrested by the Nevada Violent Offender Task Force at around 8 p.m. local time. He is currently being held in the Clark County Detention Center, awaiting extradition to Philadelphia, where charges against him are pending.
On the morning of 12 August, Hughes allegedly instigated fear among pedestrians on JFK Boulevard when he chased a 40-year-old woman while donning a Halloween mask resembling the infamous doll from the “Child’s Play” horror franchise. According to a statement from the Philadelphia Police Department (PPD), this unsettling behaviour included threats that left the victim with a serious injury after she stumbled while trying to evade him.

He departed Philadelphia on 19 August, flying first from Trenton Mercer Airport in New Jersey to Orlando. He subsequently made his way to Las Vegas, arriving at Harry Reid International Airport.
“After being featured in news reports on 20 August, he altered his location within Las Vegas and ultimately settled in a southeast apartment complex,” Deputy Clark explained during a press briefing, as reported by NBC 10 Philadelphia. Hughes had purportedly been staying in that location for five days before his arrest.
Initial investigations suggested that Hughes may have fled with the intention of creating content for social media. Philadelphia Police Captain Jason Smith expressed concerns that the suspect either sought personal amusement through his actions or planned to document the events online for profit. “I believe that he was doing this purely for social media content,” Smith stated in a conversation with ABC6.
Reports indicated that the suspect was seen in Las Vegas carrying packed bags shortly before his apprehension, hinting at a potentially premeditated flight.
