Matilda Djerf, the founder of the clothing and lifestyle brand Djerf Avenue, has recently opened up about the emotional experience surrounding her ectopic pregnancy, which led to surgery six years ago. Reflecting on that life-changing day, she shared her thoughts and feelings through an Instagram post commemorating the anniversary of the procedure.

In her post dated July 14, Djerf expressed gratitude for the healthcare she received, while also conveying sadness over the challenges she faced and frustration at the general lack of discussion surrounding reproductive health issues. “Every year on July 14th, I think back to that day in 2020,” she wrote, indicating how significant this date has become in her yearly reflection.

Alongside her poignant caption, Djerf included screenshots of an essay she had written as part of a project for 2024. This essay further illustrated her journey through the ectopic pregnancy which, as she explained, occurs when a pregnancy develops outside the uterus, specifically in the fallopian tube. Djerf detailed the moment she discovered she was pregnant, followed by the distressing news that it was an ectopic pregnancy.
The situation escalated when Djerf experienced intense pain, prompting her then-boyfriend, Rasmus Johansson—now her fiancé—to urge her to seek medical assistance. She described the urgency of the situation and how she was swiftly taken into surgery, noting that, due to COVID-19 restrictions at the time, Rasmus was unable to accompany her into the hospital.
In her touching reflection, Djerf recalled feeling immensely alone as she lay in her hospital bed, having undergone surgery to remove her fallopian tube. She poignantly reminisced, “I begged the nurse not to leave,” distress echoing in her words. Once the procedure was complete, the first thing she did was reach out for Rasmus, for whom she had never felt a greater need than during that vulnerable moment.
Throughout her post, Matilda shared photographs from her recovery, including images showing her scars as a visual representation of her journey. “I didn’t know what an ectopic pregnancy was when I was going through it,” she admitted, but she made a personal pledge to continue sharing her story in an effort to raise awareness about this reproductive health issue.
Over the years, Djerf noted that sharing her experiences had allowed her to connect with others who had endured similar challenges. She shared that she has received numerous heartfelt messages from individuals who have faced analogous situations. Through these interactions, Djerf has not only discovered a shared strength but believes that these connections have profoundly supported her continued healing.
Matilda Djerf is widely recognised for her aesthetic lifestyle content on social media, which has contributed to the popularity of her brand, Djerf Avenue. Despite the challenges she has faced, she remains an inspiring figure in the fashion and lifestyle domain, promoting openness regarding difficult topics in women’s health.
In a joyful personal update, Djerf announced her engagement to Rasmus Johansson on July 30, signalling a new chapter in her life after enduring such significant hardships. Her story serves not only as a testament to her resilience but also as an important reminder of the necessity for greater awareness and conversation surrounding reproductive health issues.
