The Atlanta Dream is set to compete against the Golden State Valkyries in the highly anticipated WNBA Finals, a significant event after a series of logistical challenges in securing an appropriate venue for their home games. In an official announcement made jointly with the Atlanta Hawks, it was confirmed that Games 3 and 4 of the Finals will take place at the State Farm Arena, a decision welcomed by both players and fans.

Traditionally, the Dream plays at the Gateway Center Arena in College Park, which accommodates only 3,500 spectators. This limited capacity posed a major concern as the team aimed to offer an adequate space for their enthusiastic supporters, particularly during such a pivotal series. Fortunately, State Farm Arena, with its larger capacity of 17,000, presented a viable alternative, although prior commitments at the venue made initial discussions tricky.

The scheduling conflicts arose primarily due to an upcoming concert by artist Sombr on October 22, as well as the Atlanta Hawks’ home opener against the Houston Rockets set for October 24. However, after extensive negotiations, the teams announced on Tuesday, October 13, that they had successfully resolved these complications, allowing the Dream’s finals matches to be held at the more spacious venue.
To accommodate the arena’s schedule while still ensuring the Dream could host their games at State Farm, Game 3 has been rescheduled for October 21 at 8 PM. This adjustment will not interfere with Sombr’s concert, as it retains its original date. Subsequently, Game 4 is slated for October 24 at 1 PM, which will precede a thrilling doubleheader as the Hawks also take to the court later that evening, with their matchup against the Rockets scheduled for 8 PM.
The statement issued by both teams highlighted the importance of this venue change not just for the players and fans, but for the broader context of women’s sports. The move represents a significant moment for the Atlanta Dream, the city of Atlanta, and the increasing recognition of women’s basketball. This series of games is expected to energise local fans and further elevate the profile of women’s sports in the region.
Cathy Engelbert, commissioner of the WNBA, also expressed her enthusiasm regarding the venue change. She emphasised that moving to State Farm Arena not only increases seating capacity but also facilitates a more vibrant atmosphere for the Finals, marking the first time the WNBA Finals have been held in Atlanta since 2013. Engelbert underscored the importance of allowing more fans from across the Southeast to witness this championship series live.
The Dream’s management expressed their gratitude for the collaboration with the Hawks in navigating the complexities of the venue change. The successful resolution of these issues was described as a result of extraordinary teamwork and dedication to elevating the experience of fans and participants alike.
As the Finals approach, excitement is building amongst the Dream’s supporters. This series represents more than just a competition; it is a celebration of the team’s resilience and the growing popularity of women’s basketball, culminating in an event that aims to bring the community together.
With both Games 3 and 4 now confirmed to be held at State Farm Arena, the Atlanta Dream and their fans are gearing up for an electric atmosphere. As they prepare to face off against the Golden State Valkyries, expectations are high for an exhilarating matchup that promises to showcase the best of women’s basketball on a grand stage.
