A young woman from Florida has been sentenced to 18 years in prison following a tragic traffic incident that claimed the life of a retired Navy veteran. The case revolves around Terriny Krepps, who was involved in a crash on June 29, 2024, which resulted in severe consequences for both victims and the defendant herself.

Krepps, who was only 19 at the time of the accident, pleaded guilty to multiple charges, including DUI manslaughter and DUI with serious bodily injury. According to a press release from Escambia County State Attorney Ginger Bowden Madden, she was also charged with two counts of driving under the influence with damage to property or person without serious injury.

The incident occurred at the intersection of Gulf Beach Highway and Navy Boulevard in Escambia County. Reports indicate that Krepps ran a red light, colliding with a vehicle driven by Kurt Kramer, an Uber driver who was transporting three passengers at the time. Tragically, Kramer succumbed to his injuries at the scene, highlighting the grave consequences of such reckless behaviour.
Details released by prosecutors reveal that Krepps had a blood alcohol concentration (BAC) of 0.186—more than twice the legal limit in Florida—two hours after the crash. Investigators discovered two packs of Twisted Tea in her vehicle, further illustrating her state of intoxication.
In a concerning revelation, Krepps had previous trouble with the law concerning alcohol; she had been cited for underage possession of alcohol just three weeks prior to the fatal incident. This history of alcohol-related offences undoubtedly played a role in the court’s decision regarding her sentencing.
Circuit Judge John Simon imposed the maximum penalty of 15 years on Krepps for the DUI manslaughter charge, which included a mandatory minimum sentence of four years. Additionally, she received three more years for the DUI with serious bodily injury charge, bringing her total prison term to 18 years.
During the sentencing, it was emphasised that Krepps’ actions had devastating effects not only on the victim’s family but also on the passengers in Kramer’s vehicle. One passenger, Cameron Montoya, suffered severe injuries that resulted in a medical discharge from the Navy, while the others, Semaj Jones and Quavon Brown, experienced minor injuries.
Following her prison term, Krepps will be required to serve two years of probation, during which she must complete all court-mandated classes and community service. Furthermore, her driver’s licence will be revoked permanently, ensuring she is unable to drive again.
As the community grapples with the ramifications of this tragedy, the case underscores the dangers associated with driving under the influence. The loss of life and the impact on the lives of Krepps and others involved serve as a stark reminder of the consequences of impaired driving.
This incident has drawn considerable attention, prompting discussions about the need for stricter enforcement of alcohol-related driving laws. As the investigation remains at the forefront of public interest, PEOPLE has reached out to Krepps’ attorney for further comments regarding the case.
The story serves as a powerful cautionary tale about the risks of drinking and driving, highlighting the profound effects such choices can have on individuals and families alike.
