Josh Duggar, the former reality television star, has initiated a new appeal in federal court following the dismissal of his previous attempt to vacate his conviction for child pornography. Brindley, officially filed the notice of appeal on June 15, 2023, targeting a decision made by federal judge Timothy Brooks, who ruled on June 1 that Duggar’s prior appeal was not submitted within the legally required timeframe. The judge highlighted several inconsistencies in Duggar’s claims regarding the delay in submitting his appeal materials, asserting that there was no record of his documentation being mailed until weeks after the appeal deadline.
In his ruling, Judge Brooks expressed scepticism of Duggar’s assertions, indicating that the circumstances presented were implausible. “The Court can grant Mr. Duggar one coincidence. Perhaps even two or three odd happenstances,” he stated, before describing the series of events Duggar described as “not credible” and akin to a “magic bullet theory.”
