**Orlando Crowned Top Staycation City Amid Rising Domestic Travel Trends**

As summer approaches and travel costs continue to rise, a new study has identified Orlando, Florida as the premier destination for staycations in the United States. The research, conducted by WalletHub, assessed over 180 cities using 41 critical criteria, including the availability of parks, recreational facilities, and restaurant prices. The findings shed light on the growing trend of domestic travel, particularly in the context of budget-conscious choices.

Orlando’s top ranking can be attributed largely to its plethora of renown theme parks such as Walt Disney World and Universal Studios. Universal’s recent addition of Epic Universe, which marked the first major theme park opening in the U.S. in over twenty years, has undoubtedly bolstered the city’s appeal. The city’s extensive range of affordable dining options further enhances its attractiveness as a staycation destination.

Chip Lubo, an analyst at WalletHub, noted the financial advantages of choosing a staycation during economically challenging times. In his comments, he highlighted that opting for local adventures can result in significant cost savings by eliminating travel expenses and overnight accommodation fees. “You can discover fun activities within your own region that may have previously gone unnoticed,” Lubo remarked, encouraging families to take advantage of the leisure activities available close to home.

Following closely behind Orlando in the report are Cincinnati, Ohio and Las Vegas, Nevada. Cincinnati appeals to residents and visitors alike with its abundance of parks, swimming pools, and baseball fields, making it an excellent option for those seeking outdoor activities. Meanwhile, Las Vegas remains a hub for entertainment, boasting a vast array of casinos and live shows that cater to a variety of tastes.

Completing the top five are St. Louis, Missouri and Honolulu, Hawaii, both offering diverse options for relaxation and entertainment. Interestingly, larger cities like New York City and Los Angeles rank lower, at 22nd and 36th place respectively, indicating that busier metropolitan areas may not always provide the best conditions for a restful getaway.

In the report, the rankings were derived from an assessment of the 150 most populous cities in the U.S., combined with at least two of the largest cities from each state. The cities were evaluated across three equally weighted categories: recreational opportunities, entertainment options, and rest and relaxation facilities.

Conversely, Pearl City, Hawaii found itself at the bottom of the list, with a notable lack of coffee shops per capita, pointing to the absence of social spaces for leisure. Other cities that ranked poorly included Yonkers, New York, Fremont, California, Irving, Texas, and Chula Vista, California, which was noted for having the lowest number of museums per capita.

Further insights from a separate report by Expedia highlight a significant shift in travel behaviour this year. Social media conversations around domestic vacations have surged by 77% globally and doubled in the U.S. Subsequently, 63% of American travellers are planning local trips for the summer. Notably, searches for beach destinations in Florida and California have increased by 50%, alongside a 65% rise in interest for natural attractions such as lakes, mountains, and national parks.

She stated that this summer’s travel patterns reflect a focus not merely on volume, but on value, as consumers seek out experiences that allow them to maximise their enjoyment while remaining conscious of their budgets.

The rankings by WalletHub reinforce the notion that thrilling adventures and restorative getaways do not necessarily require extensive travel plans, reinforcing the idea that home can be just as delightful as a far-off destination.
