According to reports from the Laguna Beach Marine Safety officials, a mother and her two children were caught off guard by a large wave that surged onto the beach, pulling them into the ocean. Marine Safety Chief Kai Bond described the water conditions as “powerful,” emphasising the unexpected nature of the incident. Bystanders who witnessed the incident quickly entered the water, successfully rescuing the mother and one of her children. However, despite their efforts, the search for the missing girl was unsuccessful.
The child who survived the ordeal is a boy, while the missing girl has been identified as a five-year-old. Following the incident, a robust search operation commenced, involving personnel from the Laguna Beach Marine Safety Department, the Orange County Sheriff’s Department Harbor Patrol, and the United States Coast Guard.
