Lil Nas X, the Grammy-winning artist known for hits such as “Old Town Road,” has openly discussed his sexuality and personal experiences in a recent interview. Recorded in February 2025 and released on April 21, 2025, the conversation took place on TS Madison’s Outlaws podcast, part of iHeartMedia’s Outspoken Podcast Network.
In the candid interview, the 27-year-old singer, born Montero Hill, confirmed that he identifies as gay. However, he also revealed that he has experienced “emotional” feelings towards women at various points in his life. “I’m gay, but if something happens, I’m not going to stop myself,” he expressed, suggesting that he remains open to the possibility of attraction beyond his primary identification.

While discussing his romantic interests, Hill stated that he “99% leans toward” men but admitted to being attracted to “certain women every now and then.” When asked about the prospect of engaging in sexual activity with a woman, he responded with nuance, saying, “I’m not saying I wouldn’t. I’m saying if there’s like, a drunk night, I’m having a good time and something happens, yeah, maybe.”

Despite his openness to emotional connections with women, Hill clarified that he has not engaged in sexual relations with them, remarking, “I’ve never had sex with a girl.” This distinction appears to demonstrate his desire to embrace varied aspects of his identity without self-imposed restrictions.
Hill also took this opportunity to reflect on his journey of self-acceptance and growth. He mentioned the importance of undergoing a “self-love journey” where he learned to accept every facet of himself rather than striving to change who he is. He emphasised the importance of being authentic, noting that his personal revelation in June 2019, when he came out publicly, marked a significant turning point in his life.
During the podcast, Hill recounted how, at one point, he considered keeping his sexuality a secret for the remainder of his life. However, he ultimately decided against this option, stating, “I don’t want to live my entire life… not doing what I want to do.” This commitment to authenticity has been a driving force throughout his career and personal life.
Despite the challenges he has faced, including recent legal issues, Hill remains focused on his commitments to personal growth and mental health. He has reportedly only had two boyfriends to date, illustrating a journey that is as much about emotional connection as it is about romantic exploration.
In August 2024, Hill was arrested in Los Angeles amid allegations of assaulting police officers who responded to a report of him walking naked in Studio City. Following his arrest, he pleaded not guilty to four felony charges. As part of his legal proceedings, he was granted the opportunity to enter a mental health diversion programme that could lead to the dismissal of his case, provided he adheres to the stipulations set by the court over the next two years.
The artist’s willingness to be transparent about his struggles and triumphs underscores his desire to connect genuinely with his audience. His openness about his sexuality reinforces the significance of representation and acceptance in the music industry and beyond.
Through his music and public appearances, Lil Nas X continues to challenge stereotypes and advocate for self-acceptance, inspiring many along the way. As he navigates both personal and professional obstacles, his journey serves as a reminder of the importance of embracing one’s true self in all its complexity.
