A man has been fined 10,000 baht (approximately £300) after a trespassing incident at the Khao Kheow Open Zoo in Thailand, where he climbed into the enclosure housing the pygmy hippo named Moo Deng. The incident occurred in March, capturing the attention of social media users and raising concerns about wildlife safety.

Captured by CCTV, the unnamed individual was seen entering Moo Deng’s enclosure, which she shares with her mother. Reports indicate that he was taking photographs on a tablet before exiting the enclosure. Following this breach of security at the zoo, the man faced legal consequences and was held accountable for his actions.
Director of Khao Kheow Open Zoo, Narongwit Chodchoy, confirmed the ruling by a local court, which found the man guilty of trespassing. “This judgement reveals that no one can infringe upon the rights of animals, whether they are in captivity or in their natural habitat,” Chodchoy stated. The court’s decision has prompted the zoo to reassess its security protocols to better safeguard its residents.
In light of the incident, the Khao Kheow Open Zoo has committed to enhanced security measures.
