Stewart, best known for his iconic role as Captain Jean-Luc Picard in “Star Trek: The Next Generation,” also lent his voice to several animated characters on popular shows, including “Family Guy” and “American Dad!” He collaborated with fellow actor and producer Seth MacFarlane on multiple projects. MacFarlane expressed his profound grief and admiration for Stewart in a heartfelt tribute shared on Instagram.
Reflecting on their professional relationship, MacFarlane recalled how he had grown up admiring Stewart’s talent. He expressed his awe at the “privilege” of working alongside him. “I remember exchanging emails with him a number of years ago when he was beginning day one of a new film,” MacFarlane wrote. Stewart had shared his feelings of trepidation that accompanied starting a new project, a sentiment that resonated with MacFarlane.

“He commented that he always walked onto a new set feeling like the biggest novice there,” MacFarlane recounted. This humility, in the face of his legendary status, left MacFarlane astonished, leading him to tell Stewart, “If you feel that way, the rest of us are screwed.” This anecdote illustrated Stewart’s down-to-earth nature and his ability to connect with those around him.
MacFarlane further praised Stewart’s remarkable skill as an actor, highlighting his ability to elevate any piece of dialogue. “He was that rare actor who could take any bit of dialogue and elevate it,” he stated, underscoring how Stewart made even good writing shine. MacFarlane lamented the loss of “a legendary actor” and “a good friend,” noting that Stewart’s presence would be deeply missed on a global scale.
In addition to his work on “Family Guy” and “American Dad!,” Stewart’s portrayal of Deputy Director Avery Bullock and his role as the narrator in “Ted” left an indelible mark on fans and colleagues alike. Seth’s sister, Rachael MacFarlane, also took to social media to honour Stewart, describing him as a “kind, lovely, generous human.”
Rachael recounted her favourite memory of Stewart, recalling his astonishment at having sold out a venue during his book tour after so many years in the public eye. “How fortunate we were to know you,” she expressed in her touching tribute.
Stewart’s battle with Alzheimer’s Disease and Lewy Body Dementia was revealed in announcements following his passing. His family has requested that in place of flowers, donations be made to the Johns Hopkins Alzheimer’s Disease Research Center Fund and the Alzheimer’s Foundation of America Caregiver Resources, thereby helping to support research and resources for others facing similar challenges.
Patrick Stewart’s legacy is one of artistry, humility, and a genuine connection to those he worked with throughout his impressive career. As the world mourns his departure, it is clear that his impact on entertainment and the lives of those who knew him will endure.
