In her Instagram post dated April 1st, Minogue revealed that her idea stemmed from a segment in which Ferrell, while in character as Ron Burgundy from the film ‘Anchorman’, was asked to name his favourite Kylie Minogue tracks. He humorously listed three fictional songs: “Take Me to the River,” “Hot Air Balloon for Two,” and “Sydney Nights.” Amused by this, Minogue decided to bring the whimsical concept to life.
“I was laughing at this clip and then the idea just hit me,” she explained. “I thought, ‘Wait, this could be fun.’ So, I mocked up a whole EP and got team Kylie to repost the clip, just to plant the seed. Then I dropped a little teaser on my story.” With that, she commenced her playful jest.
The teaser included a blurry black-and-white EP cover labelled “Midnight.” Minogue later shared a clearer image of the fictitious cover titled “Hot Air Balloon for Two,” complete with a link purportedly allowing fans to purchase the new release. “New EP out now,” she announced, generating excitement amongst her followers.
Further stoking the flames of anticipation, she revealed a tracklist that featured the very songs Ferrell had mentioned. However, those eager to buy the EP quickly discovered that the link redirected them to the music video for her classic 1992 hit, “What Kind Of Fool (Heard All That Before).”
“Oh, my God, this absolutely sent me. You know, I love you all really,” Minogue reassured her fans. In a follow-up post, she acknowledged her followers, saying, “Okay okay Lovers, I owe you one for that April Fool’s Fun,” accompanied by gratitude for her team and the source of her inspiration. “BUT WAIT … why were you all actually READY for it?!
