The actress, known for her significant role in ‘Game of Thrones’, has been cast as the iconic character Lara Croft in the forthcoming Prime Video series. A spokesperson confirmed that production be put on hold to allow Turner the necessary time to recover.

The decision to pause filming comes as a precautionary measure. A representative for Prime Video stated, “As a precaution, production has briefly paused to allow her time to recover. We look forward to resuming production as soon as possible.” It was also reported that the shutdown will last for approximately two weeks, and the crew will continue to receive payment during this period.

She stated that her training schedule included “eight hours a day, five days a week” since February 2024. Despite the challenges, Turner shared insights into her fitness journey, mentioning a pre-existing back issue she has had to navigate.

“I’ve learned I have a perpetual back problem,” Turner explained during her appearance on Radio Andy’s ‘The Julia Cunningham Show’. She noted, “It has taken me months and months and months to get into good shape.” Such dedication highlights the extensive preparation that Turner is undertaking to bring this iconic character to life.

Fans were treated to an initial glimpse of Turner as Lara Croft earlier this year, showcasing her in the character’s signature attire. Featuring shorts, a tank top, and a leather backpack with a sidearm, the image further fueled excitement for the series. Emphasising her connection to the role, Turner remarked, “I’ve been a long-time fan of Tomb Raider and the character of Lara. She has always felt, for me, very emboldened in a male-dominated world. She’s a fierce female role model.”

Waller-Bridge also praised Turner upon her casting, describing her as “formidable”. She expressed her enthusiasm in a statement: “If I could tell my teenage self this was happening, I think she’d explode. Tomb Raider has been a huge part of my life, and I feel incredibly privileged to be bringing it to television with such passionate collaborators.”

The ‘Tomb Raider’ series is not only a retelling of a classic video game franchise but also a project with significant investment from Amazon MGM Studios. The production team includes Waller-Bridge as creator, writer, executive producer, and co-showrunner, alongside Chad Hodge, who will serve as co-showrunner and executive producer.
